Pinnacle Motorsport has strengthened its Formula Regional Middle East (FRME) programme by confirming Alex Powell for the 2026 Trophy. The American-Jamaican driver steps up to Formula Regional after an impressive Formula 4 campaign, marking a key milestone in his career progression. Importantly, Powell will line up alongside 16-year-old Emirati-Swedish racer August Raber, forming a youthful and dynamic driver pairing for the FRME campaign.
A natural step up after a strong Middle East campaign
Alex Powell arrives in Formula Regional following a highly competitive 2025 Formula 4 Middle East season, where he finished runner-up in the championship. Throughout the campaign, he delivered consistent front-running pace, resilience and strong racecraft, securing multiple victories and remaining firmly in the title fight until the final round.
As a result, the move into Formula Regional represents a logical and well-timed progression. At just 18 years old, Powell now enters a more demanding technical and competitive environment, aiming to build on the momentum he established in Formula 4.
A driver shaped by elite karting success
Powell began his motorsport journey at the age of eight and quickly established himself as one of the standout karting talents of his generation. After achieving strong results in the United States, he relocated to Europe and raced extensively in Italy, where he captured several major international titles.
Notably, he won the WSK Final Cup, South Garda Winter Cup, Andrea Margutti Trophy and Champions of the Future. In addition, he finished as vice-champion in the 2022 CIK-FIA Karting European Championship in the OK category before securing third place the following year.
Consequently, Powell entered single-seater racing with a strong technical foundation and a highly developed competitive mindset.
Consistent progress through Formula 4
Powell made his single-seater debut in Italian Formula 4 in 2023 before committing to a full season in 2024. Racing with Prema Racing, he delivered a consistent and mature campaign, scoring six podium finishes and ending the season fifth in the championship standings. Moreover, he claimed the rookie title, underlining his ability to adapt quickly to top-level competition.
Alongside his Italian F4 programme, Powell also contested the Euro 4 Championship, where he claimed a race victory at Monza. Earlier in his development, he gained valuable Middle East experience in the Formula 4 UAE Championship, securing his first single-seater win at Dubai Autodrome.
In 2025, Powell joined R-ace GP for the Formula 4 Middle East Championship. Despite early mechanical setbacks, he responded strongly with pole positions and multiple race victories. Ultimately, he finished runner-up in the standings after a season-long title challenge.
Broad experience and professional preparation
Beyond full-season campaigns, Powell expanded his experience through selected appearances across different championships. He competed in Italian F4 with R-ace GP, contested a round of the Spanish F4 Championship with Saintéloc Racing and appeared as a wildcard in the Formula Regional European Championship with Prema Racing.
In parallel, Powell spent seven years as a member of the Mercedes Junior Team, an environment that sharpened his technical understanding and professional approach before his departure at the end of 2025.
A youthful line-up at Pinnacle Motorsport
In the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy, Powell will partner 16-year-old Emirati-Swedish driver August Raber. Together, the pairing blends experience, speed and development potential, aligning closely with Pinnacle Motorsport’s long-term philosophy.
Consequently, the team enters the 2026 FRME season with a strong platform for both competitiveness and growth as the new Formula Regional era continues to unfold.
