It’s race day at the 2026 Formula E Miami E-Prix, and drivers are getting ready to head out on track for Free Practice 2.

Round 3 of Season 12 began on Friday with the Rookie Free Practice, where Envision Racing’s Zak O’Sullivan went quickest. Later in the day, FE drivers hit the track for FP1, marking the championship’s first running at the Miami International Autodrome.

Throughout FP1, drivers battled track limits, oversteer, and the challenge of adapting to the new track. There was even a small moment of contact between Cassidy and da Costa late on. In the end, Dan Ticktum topped the timesheets with a 55.503, followed by Barnard and Müller.

FP2 underway

With the green light displayed, all drivers have left the pits, eager to start their first laps. Reigning World Champion Oliver Rowland was first to set a lap time of 1:02.76 as other drivers warmed up their tires. Soon after, drivers from Jaguar TCS, Mahindra, and Envision Racing took turns topping the timesheets.

Ten minutes into the FE Miami E-Prix FP2 session, António Félix da Costa leads the way with a 57.042.

Meanwhile, Buemi, who was on a strong, fast lap, had to enter the pits after encountering traffic involving Cassidy, who left little space for Buemi to pass by.

20 minutes remain

Halfway through the session, Zane Maloney replaced da Costa at the top after setting a time of 56.658 with a full-power lap. With that, other drivers have begun driving full-power laps, with Nato taking P1.

Times continued to improve, with Vergne looking particularly strong in P2. This marks an important milestone for the Citroën driver, who has only secured four points over the previous two rounds. Whereas teammate Cassidy took a P3 podium in São Paulo and a win in Mexico City.

Final laps

10 minutes remain of FP2, with da Costa setting the pace with a time of 55.585; though his time was soon deleted for track limits at Turn 8. It is clear that drivers are still learning the layout, with many hitting the kerbs. Evans also struggles at Turn 10, going beyond the track’s white lines.

CUPRA KIRO rookie Pepe Martí moved into P1, using his extended experience after taking part in the Rookie Free Practice. While Rowland sits in the pits after facing issues with his Nissan’s balance.

With two minutes left to go, drivers are quickly improving, with Barnard taking the top spot with a strong time of 55.531. The Miami E-Prix FP2 session ended under a red flag after Lucas di Grassi missed an apex and collided with Mitch Evans. The incident remains under investigation, with a possible penalty coming in time for the E-Prix later today.

At the end, Barnard leads the grid with Vergne and Müller behind.
