Ritomo Miyata enters the 2026 F2 season for his third campaign, this time with Hitech. He finished 17th in the 2025 standings with 30 points, having placed 19th in his rookie year with Rodin Motorsport. His seasons have shown steady progress, highlighted by a second-place finish at Spa in 2025. Strong race craft has been a consistent feature of his F2 career. Qualifying, however, has remained an area for improvement. For 2026, Miyata joins Hitech alongside IndyCar veteran Colton Herta as the more experienced driver in the pairing.
Miyata confident that experience will count against a rookie-heavy grid
Ritomo Miyata believes his growing F2 experience can help him fight higher up the order in 2026. He prepares for a fresh start with Hitech, as the grid is expected to feature many new faces. Speaking during a virtual media event attended by Pit Debrief, Miyata addressed how his time in the category has reshaped his approach.
Asked about being part of one of the more experienced driver pairings on the grid, Miyata made it clear that his experience mattered. In F2, small details can decide entire weekends, and two completed seasons carry significant value.
“This season, for me, is the third season in F2. I have more experience than last year in the 2024 season. I’m really excited. F2 is really difficult to practise or something like this, but I have experience, so I could fight, I think.” This experience will be central to Miyata’s 2026 F2 season, as he enters his third season in the championship with greater familiarity with the car, tyres, and race procedures.
Miyata’s F2 journey so far
Miyata made his F2 debut in 2024 with Rodin Motorsport, finishing 19th in the Drivers’ Championship. It was a challenging introduction to European single-seater racing. He had arrived from Japan with a championship-winning background, including the 2023 Super Formula and Super GT titles, experience that he carries into his Miyata F2 2026 campaign with Hitech.
His moved to ART Grand Prix for his second season, where he showed clear improvement. Miyata finished 17th in the 2025 standings with 30 points. His highlight came at Spa, where he secured second place in the Feature Race in wet conditions. He also scored points at Imola, Monaco, and Barcelona, but inconsistent qualifying and difficult grid positions limited his overall results.
A maiden victory the goal for Miyata at Hitech in F2 2026
Ritomo Miyata has spoken of his desire to find greater consistency in his 2026 F2 season, particularly in qualifying. He identified that as a key focus during post-season testing. His race results across two seasons have shown he can compete at the front when conditions allow. The Spa podium in 2025 stands as the clearest example of that. Hitech finished second in the 2025 Teams’ Championship. Miyata will be looking to build on that platform alongside Herta as the 2026 F2 season gets underway.
