Louis Sharp has been fighting to find his feet in the 2025 season of F3 with Rodin Motorsport. The Kiwi sits 19th in the championship after a difficult start to the year, but as the season reaches its mid-point, Sharp has found his footing and looks to continue the momentum.
Australia was a trial by fire for Louis Sharp. The opening round of the F3 season had Sharp qualifying 15th, just a few places away from a possible points finish. The sprint race was difficult for the kiwi, slipping down into 17th place while his teammate, Roman Biliński, stood on the podium.
The feature race was better, crossing the line in 14th, but he was still four places short of getting points on the board. However, a slow start to the season wasn’t going to stop Sharp.
Bahrain started off slow, Sharp put his Rodin 18th in qualifying, once again a far cry from Callum Voisin, his other Rodin teammate, who had managed an impressive second place. He tried to make up ground in the sprint race, but only climbed four places, once again missing out on an opportunity for points.
The feature race turned sour for the Kiwi, slipping down to 23rd on the grid by the time the chequered flag was waved, and 43 seconds away from the leader.
The turning point
Things shifted for Sharp in the triple header. Imola was the start of three weekends of racing, and it was where the Kiwi got his name on the board.
Sharp qualified fifth, putting himself in the perfect position to take points across the weekend. Both teammates weren’t far behind, but Sharp led the Rodin charge.
The sprint race was the first flash of what Sharp was capable of, storming from eighth with the reverse grid, to fourth. Within eyesight of the final podium position. The kiwi was unfortunate in the feature race, falling to 12th place, just outside the points. But the weekend was full of positives for Louis Sharp as he looked to repeat the performance into Monaco.
The first double points weekend came for Sharp in Monaco. Sharp qualified seventh in Group A, which left him 13th overall on the grid for Saturday and Sunday. After tasting points in Imola, the Rodin driver wasn’t ready to let go, and he power towards a ninth place finish.
But once wasn’t enough, and Sharp found himself repeating the performance in the feature race. Finishing ninth in both races gave Sharp a boost to 11 points.
Final push of the first half
Into the final leg of the triple header, Sharp fell out of the points again. Qualifying put Sharp 17th, behind both of his Rodin teammates. He faced an uphill battle to find himself leaving Barcelona with points.
Sharp fought on the back end of the points, climbing up to 13th in the sprint race and to 12th in the feature race. While Sharp missed out on points, the clean weekend was a positive in itself among the chaos of F3.
With the next round in Austria at the end of June, Sharp and Rodin have time to prepare for the second half of the season and fight back up the standings.
