2026 British F4 | Round 5: Zandvoort | Van Langendonck retakes championship lead as Rodin seals clean sweep

The 2026 Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA, travelled to Zandvoort for its only overseas meeting of the season and the fifth round of the campaign.

A record-equalling 32-car field tackled the fast and undulating Dutch circuit, while the championship also broadcast qualifying live for the first time. Lewis Wherrell arrived with a nine-point advantage over Dries Van Langendonck after taking the championship lead at Silverstone.

However, Van Langendonck responded emphatically. The Rodin Motorsport driver claimed pole position before winning Races 1 and 3, while teammate Ethan Lennon triumphed in the reverse-grid contest to complete a clean sweep for the team.

Meanwhile, Wherrell failed to score across the three races. Consequently, Van Langendonck left Zandvoort with a commanding 47-point lead in the Drivers’ Championship and a 43-point advantage in the Rookie Cup. Hitech also strengthened its position at the top of the Teams’ standings despite Rodin winning every race.

2026 British F4: Zandvoort: Qualifying: Van Langendonck beats Lindblom to pole

Van Langendonck set the pace during a closely contested qualifying session on Saturday morning.

Several drivers traded the fastest time throughout the 25-minute session. However, the McLaren Driver Development Programme member moved to the top during the closing stages and recorded two laps quick enough to claim pole.

Van Langendonck completed his fastest lap in 1:37.213, beating Hitech’s Scott Kin Lindblom by 0.140 seconds. Ethan Jeff-Hall placed third for Argenti Motorsport, only 0.206s away from pole.

Theo Palmer and Jaber Alsabah set identical 1:37.612 lap times in fourth and fifth. Cameron Nelson followed in sixth, while Silverstone winner George Proudford-Nalder placed seventh.

Ethan Carney, Alba Larsen and Tommy Harfield completed the top ten. Meanwhile, championship leader Wherrell qualified 14th, leaving him with significant work to do during the three races.

Second-fastest qualifying laps determined the Race 1 grid. Therefore, Van Langendonck started the opener from pole alongside Palmer, with Lindblom and Jeff-Hall on the second row.

2026 British F4: Zandvoort: Race 1: Van Langendonck converts pole into commanding victory

Van Langendonck made an excellent start and immediately controlled the opening race.

Palmer retained second ahead of teammate Lindblom, while Jeff-Hall moved around the outside of Carney to strengthen his hold on fourth.

However, the Safety Car interrupted the race on Lap 2 after Sun Anzhe went into the gravel at Turn 1. Officials recovered the Argenti Motorsport car before releasing the field for the restart.

Van Langendonck judged the restart perfectly and prevented Palmer from mounting a serious challenge. The Belgian then maintained a steady advantage through the closing laps and crossed the line 0.540s ahead of the Hitech driver.

Lindblom defended third from Jeff-Hall to complete the podium. Harfield followed in fifth and claimed the fastest lap, while Carney, Clark, Cash Felber, Roman Felber and Alsabah completed the top ten.

Wherrell could only recover to 12th. Therefore, Van Langendonck overturned his nine-point deficit and reclaimed the championship lead after the opening race.

2026 British F4: Zandvoort: Race 2: Lennon wins interrupted reverse-grid contest

Kobakhidze started the reverse-grid second race from pole, but Lennon made a stronger launch from the front row.

The Rodin Motorsport driver swept into the lead at Turn 1, while Kobakhidze came under immediate pressure from Harfield. Their battle ended during the following lap when Harfield attempted a move at the banked Turn 3 and the pair made contact.

Kobakhidze retired on the spot, prompting the first Safety Car period. The incident promoted Larsen and Nelson into podium contention behind Lennon.

However, the field faced another interruption shortly after the restart when officials deployed the Safety Car to recover Roman Felber’s Fortec Motorsport car.

Proudford-Nalder used the brief period of green-flag racing to move ahead of Nelson. Then, when racing resumed for a one-lap sprint to the finish, he attacked Larsen into Turn 1 and took second.

Lennon resisted the late pressure and crossed the line 0.501s ahead of Proudford-Nalder. The South African also claimed the fastest lap as he secured his second victory of the season.

Larsen held third to earn her first single-seater podium, while Nelson finished a career-best fourth and claimed the Rookie Cup victory. Lindblom and Palmer followed in fifth and sixth, while Van Langendonck took ninth.

Meanwhile, Wherrell finished 21st and failed to score for the second consecutive race.

2026 British F4: Zandvoort: Race 3: Van Langendonck completes double victory

Van Langendonck returned to pole for the final race and made another strong start to lead Lindblom and Jeff-Hall.

The Rodin driver began to build an advantage before an opening-lap incident involving Lloyd and Sadiq at Turn 1 left the latter stranded and brought out the first Safety Car.

Racing resumed with 13 minutes remaining. However, Lindblom stayed close to Van Langendonck, while Jeff-Hall pressured the Hitech driver for second.

Jeff-Hall then ran into the gravel on the second lap after the restart and dropped down the order. His mistake promoted Palmer into third and Nelson into fourth.

Moments later, Felbermayr and Sutton became involved in an incident at the high-speed Turn 6, prompting another Safety Car intervention.

The race restarted with approximately one and a half minutes remaining. Van Langendonck immediately created a gap and prevented Lindblom from launching an attack.

He crossed the line 0.982s ahead of the Swedish driver to claim his fourth victory of the season. Van Langendonck also secured the fastest-lap point and the Rookie Cup win.

Palmer completed the podium, while Nelson held off Proudford-Nalder to take his second fourth-place finish of the day. Lennon finished sixth ahead of Alsabah, Harfield, Jeff-Hall and Carney.

Wherrell finished 17th and completed the Zandvoort meeting without scoring a point.

Championship picture: Van Langendonck moves 47 points clear

Van Langendonck arrived at Zandvoort nine points behind Wherrell after enduring his most difficult meeting of the season at Silverstone.

However, pole position, two victories, a ninth-place finish and the Race 3 fastest lap transformed the championship picture. The Belgian increased his total from 123 to 179 points and now holds a 47-point advantage.

In contrast, Wherrell struggled throughout the weekend. He qualified 14th before finishing 12th, 21st and 17th across the three races. As a result, the JHR Developments driver remained on 132 points.

Palmer moved into third with 125 points after recording two podium finishes. He sits only one point ahead of teammate Lindblom, who also earned two podiums at Zandvoort.

Jeff-Hall remains fifth on 109 points, while Proudford-Nalder’s Race 2 podium helped him climb to 94. Al Azhari follows in seventh, ahead of Lennon, Clark and Smith.

Van Langendonck also strengthened his Rookie Cup lead. He now holds 233 points, 43 ahead of Wherrell, while Alsabah sits a further 50 points behind in third.

Nelson’s two fourth-place finishes and Race 2 class victory moved him to 133 points. He sits seven behind Alsabah and 15 ahead of Jüngling.

Despite Rodin Motorsport winning all three races, Hitech’s consistent scoring allowed the team to extend its advantage in the Teams’ Championship.

Palmer and Lindblom both claimed two podiums, while Al Azhari added further points in Race 2. Consequently, Hitech increased its total to 304 points.

Rodin sits second on 232 after Van Langendonck and Lennon combined for the weekend’s three victories. Virtuosi Racing holds third with 194 points, ahead of JHR Developments on 174.

Conclusion

Zandvoort produced the strongest possible response from Van Langendonck following his difficult Silverstone meeting.

The Belgian claimed pole, controlled both races that he started from the front and transformed a nine-point deficit into a 47-point championship advantage. Lennon’s reverse-grid victory also ensured that Rodin Motorsport won every race during the weekend.

Meanwhile, Wherrell’s first scoreless meeting of the season significantly damaged his title challenge. Nevertheless, he remains second, with Palmer and Lindblom only seven and eight points behind him respectively.

Hitech also demonstrated the value of consistency. Although Rodin secured all three victories, Palmer, Lindblom and Al Azhari combined to give Hitech a 72-point advantage in the Teams’ Championship.

The British F4 Championship returns to the UK for Round 6 at Thruxton on 25–26 July. Van Langendonck will arrive with control of the Drivers’ Championship and Rookie Cup, while Wherrell and the Hitech pairing will aim to respond at the fastest circuit on the calendar.
