2026 | ELMS | Silverstone | Algarve Pro Racing wins rain-hit race

Algarve Pro Racing became the fourth different overall winner of the 2026 European Le Mans Series (ELMS) season as Matthias Kaiser, Jake Hughes and Ben Barnicoat claimed victory in a rain-hit Goodyear 4 Hours of Silverstone.

The #25 Oreca-Gibson emerged from a chaotic second half of the race to finish 17.995s ahead of the #14 TDS Racing entry, which took LMP2 Pro/Am honours with Steven Thomas, Sami Meguetounif and Scott Huffaker. IDEC Sport’s #28 completed the LMP2 podium in fourth overall, while United Autosports’ #22 took third in class and sixth overall.

R-ace GP secured its maiden ELMS LMP3 victory with Fabien Michal, Pierre-Alexandre Provost and Hugo Schwarze, reducing CLX Motorsport’s championship advantage to nine points. Team Qatar by Iron Lynx also broke through in LMGT3 as Abdulla Ali Al-Khelaifi, Ralf Aron and Julian Hanses delivered the first ELMS victory for a Mercedes-AMG in the category.

Before Sunday’s race, United Autosports opened the weekend fastest in FP1 before Inter Europol Competition took control in FP2. Tom Dillmann then secured overall pole for the #43 Inter Europol Oreca, while TDS Racing, CLX Motorsport and Team Qatar by Iron Lynx led their respective classes in Qualifying.

2026 ELMS Silverstone: FP1: United Autosports starts home weekend on top

United Autosports set the early benchmark as Ben Hanley led Friday’s opening Free Practice session around the 5.891km Silverstone Grand Prix circuit.

The British driver produced a 1:44.964 in the #22 Oreca-Gibson, beating Job van Uitert’s #28 IDEC Sport entry by 0.124s. Spa winner Dillmann followed only another 0.017s behind in the #43 Inter Europol Competition car, while the leading six LMP2 entries finished within three-tenths of the benchmark.

Malthe Jakobsen placed the #20 Algarve Pro Racing Oreca seventh overall and led LMP2 Pro/Am with a 1:45.402. Alex Quinn followed only 0.059s behind for Nielsen Racing, while Antonio Fuoco placed AF Corse third in class.

Louis Iglesias led LMP3 for championship leader CLX Motorsport with a 1:54.037, beating Team Virage’s Matteo Quintarelli by 0.144s. Thomas Sargent topped LMGT3 in the #75 Proton Competition Porsche, only 0.040s clear of Mathys Jaubert’s Kessel Racing Ferrari.

The 90-minute session also featured a red flag after three cars went into the barriers. All three drivers emerged unharmed, although repairs to the barriers delayed proceedings.

2026 ELMS Silverstone: Bronze Driver Collective Test: Roda leads Duqueine Team

Giorgio Roda moved Duqueine Team to the top during Friday afternoon’s Bronze Driver Collective Test, setting a 1:45.490 in the #30 Oreca-Gibson.

The Italian finished 0.830s ahead of TDS Racing’s Steven Thomas, while Georgios Kolovos completed an LMP2 Pro/Am top three for CLX Motorsport. Jean Glorieux and PJ Hyett followed for DKR Engineering and AO by TF respectively.

Max van der Snel led LMP3 for Eurointernational with a 1:55.606, while Blake McDonald topped LMGT3 in TF Sport’s #33 Corvette with a 1:59.782.

2026 ELMS Silverstone: FP2: Dillmann puts Inter Europol on top

Dillmann moved Inter Europol Competition to the front during Saturday morning’s final 90-minute practice session, producing a 1:43.713 in the #43 Oreca.

The lap lowered Friday’s benchmark by more than a second and placed Dillmann 0.344s ahead of Hughes in the #25 Algarve Pro Racing entry. CLX Motorsport followed in third with the #37, while IDEC Sport and Vector Sport completed the top five.

Louis Delétraz led LMP2 Pro/Am for AO by TF with a 1:44.817, good enough for eighth overall. Huffaker placed TDS Racing second in class ahead of Jakobsen in the #20 Algarve Pro Racing car, with AF Corse only 0.012s further back.

Schwarze headed LMP3 for R-ace GP with a 1:54.232, while Boyd produced a new outright ELMS LMGT3 lap record for United Autosports. His 1:58.724 in the #23 McLaren 720S GT3 Evo placed him ahead of Valentin Hasse-Clot’s Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin and Daniel Serra’s Kessel Racing Ferrari.

The session ended five minutes early after Marlon Hernandez put the #3 DKR Engineering Oreca into the gravel. Richard Mille AF Corse did not participate after withdrawing the #50 Ferrari following damage sustained during FP1.

2026 ELMS Silverstone: LMGT3 Qualifying: Al-Khelaifi takes third pole

Team Qatar by Iron Lynx returned to the front during the first Qualifying session as Al-Khelaifi secured his third LMGT3 pole of the season.

The Qatari driver recorded a 2:00.011 in the #62 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo and finished 0.251s clear of McDonald’s #33 TF Sport Corvette. François Hériau placed the #59 Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin third, while Duncan Cameron secured fourth for Spirit of Race.

Matt Kurzejewski qualified the championship-leading #75 Proton Competition Porsche seventh, leaving several of its closest rivals ahead on the grid.

2026 ELMS Silverstone: LMP3 Qualifying: Iglesias edges Schwarze

CLX Motorsport strengthened its championship position when Iglesias beat R-ace GP rival Schwarze in a close fight for LMP3 pole.

Iglesias produced a 1:53.144 in the #17 Ligier JS P325-Toyota to secure his second pole of the season. Schwarze finished just 0.069s behind in the #85 R-ace GP Duqueine, while Quintarelli placed Team Virage third.

Rinaldi Racing followed in fourth through Mikkel Gaarde Pedersen, with Eurointernational completing the top five. The qualifying bonus increased CLX Motorsport’s championship advantage to 16 points before Sunday’s race.

2026 ELMS Silverstone: LMP2 Pro/Am Qualifying: Thomas claims maiden pole

Thomas delivered his first ELMS pole position as TDS Racing topped the 12-car LMP2 Pro/Am field.

The American recorded a 1:45.611 in the #14 Oreca-Gibson, beating CLX Motorsport’s Kolovos by 0.273s. Roda, already fastest during the Bronze Driver Collective Test, qualified third for Duqueine Team with a 1:46.342.

Hyett placed AO by TF fourth, while championship contender Michael Jensen completed the top five for Algarve Pro Racing. AF Corse, which had won the previous round at Spa, qualified ninth.

2026 ELMS Silverstone: LMP2 Qualifying: Dillmann puts Inter Europol on pole

Dillmann completed a strong Saturday for Inter Europol Competition by securing outright pole with a 1:43.279.

Forestier Racing by Panis initially led through Oliver Gray, but Dillmann and CLX Motorsport’s Adrien Closmenil moved ahead during the closing stages. Closmenil eventually secured the other front-row position with a 1:43.380, just 0.101s away from pole.

Gray recovered to third with his final effort, only 0.122s behind Dillmann, while Reshad de Gerus placed Inter Europol Competition’s #34 fourth. IDEC Sport followed in fifth before eventual race winner Algarve Pro Racing qualified sixth with the #25.

2026 ELMS Silverstone: Race: changing weather transforms fight for victory

Overnight rain left Silverstone damp for the start of Sunday’s four-hour race, although a dry line had formed before the 46-car field headed towards Copse.

Pole-sitter Jakub Śmiechowski led initially in the #43 Inter Europol Competition Oreca, but Jensen immediately attacked in the #37 CLX Motorsport entry. The Dane swept past at Abbey on the opening lap and began pulling clear, while Kaiser also moved the eventual race-winning #25 Algarve Pro Racing car ahead of Śmiechowski before completing the first tour.

Further behind, Jamie Chadwick spun the #18 IDEC Sport Oreca at Maggots directly ahead of Ryan Cullen’s #10 Vector Sport entry, costing both cars positions. In LMP2 Pro/Am, Kolovos and Thomas traded the class lead before the CLX driver established himself at the front.

Griffin Peebles also charged through the field for United Autosports. The Australian moved from eighth to challenge Kaiser for second and completed the pass at Stowe, but his progress unravelled when he collided with the #35 Ultimate LMP3 car while working through traffic. Race Control handed Peebles a drive-through penalty for causing the incident.

Lanchère initially headed LMP3 for CLX Motorsport before Eurointernational’s Matt Bell passed him at The Loop. In LMGT3, pole-sitter Al-Khelaifi lost the lead to McDonald on the opening lap, with the TF Sport Corvette opening a four-second advantage during the first half-hour.

Rain creates strategic chaos at halfway

Conditions changed dramatically as rain arrived during the second hour.

Inter Europol Competition’s hopes of converting pole into another victory suffered a major setback when Nick Yelloly lost the left-rear wheel from the #43. He slowly returned the Oreca to the pits, but a larger problem subsequently forced the team to take the car into the garage.

A Full Course Yellow followed to recover the wheel and debris before Gray put the #29 Forestier Racing by Panis Oreca into the gravel at Brooklands as the rain intensified.

The race then required a Virtual Safety Car after Andrew Gilbert spun the #74 Kessel Racing Ferrari into the path of Ameerh Naran’s #63 Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG. Both cars sustained heavy damage and stopped beside the circuit, although both drivers climbed out unaided.

The neutralisation prompted another round of pit stops. Several teams gambled on slick tyres, but worsening rain quickly made that the wrong choice and forced them back into the pits for wets. The previously leading #37 CLX Motorsport entry was among those caught out and dropped through the order.

A Safety Car period lasting almost 25 minutes followed before racing resumed, dramatically reshuffling the leading positions.

Nielsen takes lead as Algarve Pro Racing remains in contention

Edward Pearson emerged in front aboard the #24 Nielsen Racing Oreca following the pit cycle, with Hughes sitting around 12 seconds behind in the #25 Algarve Pro Racing car.

Meguetounif led LMP2 Pro/Am for TDS Racing ahead of Dane Cameron’s #99 AO by TF, while Alexander Jacoby controlled LMP3 in the #17 CLX Motorsport entry from R-ace GP’s Provost.

Richard Lietz held the LMGT3 lead for Proton Competition but struggled for grip after the restart, allowing Alec Udell to move the #33 TF Sport Corvette back ahead.

Algarve Pro Racing then received a 10-second penalty for an earlier collision with United Autosports’ #23 McLaren. Hughes served the penalty at the next stop and returned to the circuit fifth overall, leaving the #25 with work to do over the remaining distance.

R-ace GP meanwhile moved ahead in LMP3 when Jacoby briefly left the circuit, allowing Provost to take advantage and put the #85 at the front.

TDS Racing briefly takes overall lead

The LMP2 Pro/Am runners increasingly became part of the overall victory fight as the weather continued to disrupt conventional strategies.

Another Full Course Yellow followed when Chadwick’s #18 IDEC Sport Oreca went into the gravel at Stowe. After the restart, Meguetounif attacked Pearson and moved the #14 TDS Racing Oreca into the overall lead, while Fuoco climbed to second aboard the #83 AF Corse Pro/Am entry.

The race changed again near the end of the third hour when the #59 Racing Spirit of Léman Aston Martin went into the gravel at Stowe, prompting another FCY. While the field circulated under neutralisation, Meguetounif suddenly slowed from the lead and needed to recycle the car’s power before continuing.

He immediately pitted once green-flag racing returned, opening the door for another reshuffle ahead of the final hour.

Barnicoat emerges from late lead fight

Several cars held the overall lead during the final hour as different strategies converged.

Marino Sato moved United Autosports’ #21 Pro/Am Oreca ahead of the #7 Vector Sport entry, but Barnicoat continued moving the #25 Algarve Pro Racing car towards the front. He eventually passed Sato and established himself in the lead as the race entered its closing stages.

The 2023 ELMS champion team had started only sixth and had already absorbed a penalty, changing weather and repeated neutralisations. However, Barnicoat finally created enough of an advantage to secure Algarve Pro Racing’s first ELMS LMP2 victory in three years.

He crossed the line 17.995s ahead of Huffaker in the #14 TDS Racing car and almost 30 seconds ahead of the next LMP2 entry, the #28 IDEC Sport Oreca.

The result made Algarve Pro Racing the fourth different overall winner across the opening five rounds of the season.

TDS Racing becomes fifth LMP2 Pro/Am winner in five races

TDS Racing converted its class pole into victory despite its own eventful afternoon.

Thomas started the #14 from the front of the LMP2 Pro/Am field before Meguetounif moved the car into the overall victory battle during the middle stages. His temporary technical issue while leading threatened the result, but the car recovered and remained firmly in contention.

Huffaker took over for the closing stint and brought the Oreca home second overall, only 17.995s behind Algarve Pro Racing. More importantly, he finished comfortably ahead of Sato in the #21 United Autosports car to secure the class win.

Rossa Racing by Virage completed the LMP2 Pro/Am podium with its #19 Oreca in fifth overall.

The victory made TDS Racing the fifth different LMP2 Pro/Am winner in as many races and moved the team to 62 points, only five behind championship leader AF Corse heading to Portimão.

R-ace GP takes maiden ELMS victory

R-ace GP converted its growing pace into a first ELMS LMP3 victory with Michal, Provost and Schwarze.

CLX Motorsport had led portions of the race with the #17 before Provost capitalised on Jacoby’s excursion to move ahead. Schwarze then managed the tyres through the difficult closing conditions to secure the breakthrough result.

The German crossed the line 14.401s ahead of the #17 CLX Ligier, while the #13 Inter Europol Competition entry completed the class podium one lap behind.

The result significantly tightened the championship battle. CLX Motorsport remains ahead on 84 points, but R-ace GP has moved to 75, leaving only nine points between the two entries before the season finale.

Team Qatar by Iron Lynx delivers Mercedes-AMG breakthrough

LMGT3 produced one of the closest battles of the final hour as Team Qatar by Iron Lynx, TF Sport and Kessel Racing fought for victory.

Jaubert initially led aboard the #57 Kessel Racing Ferrari, with Hanses’ #62 Mercedes-AMG and Eastwood’s #33 Corvette directly behind. Jaubert ran wide at Luffield, allowing both rivals through and setting up a prolonged fight between Hanses and Eastwood.

The pair traded positions before Hanses finally gained the upper hand and established a small margin approaching the chequered flag. He eventually finished 2.938s ahead of Eastwood.

Harry King added further drama on the final lap by passing Jaubert in the #77 Proton Competition Porsche to take the final podium position.

The victory marked several milestones. Al-Khelaifi became the first Qatari driver to win an ELMS race, while Team Qatar by Iron Lynx delivered Mercedes-AMG’s first victory in ELMS LMGT3 competition.

It also transformed the championship standings. Team Qatar by Iron Lynx moved onto 73 points, three ahead of TF Sport and 11 clear of the #77 Proton Competition entry.

Jensen, Fuoco and Aron receive Wingfoot Awards

Silverstone’s fan-voted Goodyear Wingfoot Awards recognised three drivers following the four-hour race.

Jensen received the LMP2 award after taking the lead from pole-sitter Śmiechowski on the opening lap and establishing the #37 CLX Motorsport Oreca at the front during the early stages.

Fuoco earned the LMP2 Pro/Am award following a race in which he brought the #83 AF Corse entry into the overall podium fight during the changing conditions.

Aron completed the three winners in LMGT3 after taking the #62 Team Qatar by Iron Lynx Mercedes-AMG into the class lead during the second half of the race, helping lay the foundations for Hanses to complete the victory.

Silverstone ensured that all four ELMS championships remain undecided heading into the final round at Portimão.

United Autosports’ #22 leaves Britain with 85 points and a 13-point advantage over the #29 Forestier Racing by Panis entry in LMP2. Algarve Pro Racing’s victory moves the #25 to third on 54 points, leaving the Portuguese team 31 behind the leaders ahead of its home finale.

LMP2 Pro/Am remains considerably tighter. AF Corse leads with 67 points despite scoring only six at Silverstone, while TDS Racing’s victory moves it to 62. The #20 Algarve Pro Racing and #30 Duqueine Team entries sit another point behind on 61, leaving four teams covered by only six points.

CLX Motorsport carries a nine-point LMP3 advantage over R-ace GP after the latter’s maiden victory reduced the margin to 84-75. Rinaldi Racing follows on 59 but remains within mathematical reach entering Portugal.

The closest contest sits in LMGT3, where Team Qatar by Iron Lynx has moved into the championship lead on 73 points after its Silverstone victory. TF Sport follows only three points behind, with the #77 Proton Competition Porsche on 62 and the #75 sister car on 61.

The 4 Hours of Portimão will conclude the 2026 ELMS season from 8-10 October, with the four-hour race taking place on Saturday. After five rounds produced four different overall LMP2 winners and left every title unresolved, the Algarve finale will decide all four champions.
