The battle for the F3 championship intensifies at the final racing weekend of the season, as the Sprint Race in Madrid for the Spanish GP has now delivered its results.

The first competition of the racing weekend saw PREMA’s James Wharton start from pole in the Sprint Race, alongside Campos’ Théophile Naël. Championship leader Slater started outside of the top twelve both races of the day following a challenging Qualifying 1, whereas Ugochukwu began the Sprint from the second row.

Naël gained the leadership of the race at the start, but Wharton cut through the first chicane to pass him. Ultimately, the PREMA driver was forced to return the position. Naël held onto the top spot, developing a strong two seconds gap over his rival.

A brief yellow flag for debris was issued on Lap 3, allowing the marshals to remove the potential danger.

Both Championship contenders maintained their starting positions, with Ugochukwu running in P9 and Slater in P18.

Deligny was then under investigation for leaving the track and gaining an advantage for an earlier battle for P7 against Nakamura. The VAR driver was subsequently awarded a ten seconds time penalty.

Overall , it was a commanding Sprint Race for Naël, with a comfortable 7.8 second gap ahead of Wharton, with Powell taking his first F3 podium in only his second weekend with PREMA in F3, serving as Louis Sharp’s replacement.
