Wehrlein and Ticktum lead the Group Stage as Maloney makes the Duels for the first time

Group A opened the action, with 10 drivers taking to the track for a 10-minute session. After several build laps, the fight for the top four intensified as drivers moved up and down the order. In the end, Pascal Wehrlein set the pace with a 58.369, while Felipe Drugovich, Oliver Rowland and Nick Cassidy also secured their places in the next stage. Taylor Barnard narrowly missed out, dropping to P5 and falling short of the duels after Rowland surged to P3.

Group B did not run as smoothly. With around four minutes remaining, Lucas di Grassi clipped the wall. Although he recovered the car, he could not continue to compete and quickly slipped down the order. As track conditions improved between sessions, the Group B drivers lapped faster than those in Group A, with Dan Ticktum and several others already quicker than Wehrlein’s benchmark. Ticktum ultimately led the group, with Edoardo Mortara, Zane Maloney and Nico Mueller joining him in the duels—marking Maloney’s first appearance at that stage. António Félix da Costa, who topped FP2, just missed out, finishing fifth.
