The 2026 Formula Regional Americas Championship (FRAC) concluded at Barber Motorsports Park with victories for Brady Golan and Cooper Shipman, while Toney Driver Development secured the Teams’ Championship and Whitney Strickland claimed the Masters Cup title.
Having already clinched the Drivers’ Championship during Round 7 at VIR, Golan continued his impressive season by claiming his eighth victory in Saturday’s shortened opening race. However, Kiwi Motorsport’s Shipman responded on Sunday, leading every lap of the finale to secure his third victory of the campaign.
The weekend also settled the remaining championship battles. Evagoras Papasavvas retained second in the Drivers’ standings despite receiving a penalty in the final race, while Shipman secured third ahead of Kekai Hauanio. Toney Driver Development defeated Crosslink Motorsports in the Teams’ Championship, with Christian Bogle and Luke Powers claiming podium finishes in Sunday’s finale.
In the Masters Cup, Strickland secured the title despite retiring from Race 1, with the shortened contest awarding half points. Kevin Janzen subsequently won the final race in class, completing the championship as runner-up.
Shipman and Papasavvas lead Friday practice at Barber
The final FRAC weekend began with two 35-minute practice sessions on Friday, 16 October, as the championship returned to the 2.38-mile Barber Motorsports Park circuit in Alabama.
Shipman established the early benchmark during Practice 1, recording a 1:20.391 to finish 0.591 seconds ahead of Papasavvas. Harbir Dass completed an encouraging session for Kiwi Motorsport in third, setting a 1:21.030, while Hauanio and Golan rounded out the top five.
Crosslink Motorsport’s Aidan Schuh followed in sixth, ahead of Bogle, Powers, James Lawley and Alejandro Bobadilla. The session demonstrated the potential for another competitive weekend, particularly with Shipman, Papasavvas and Hauanio still fighting over the remaining championship podium positions.
Papasavvas moved to the top during the afternoon session, improving to a 1:20.470. Golan finished just 0.205 seconds behind, while Hauanio completed the top three with a 1:20.691. Powers took fourth ahead of Shipman, leaving three different teams represented among the leading five.
The narrow margins suggested a close qualifying battle, with less than one second separating the six fastest drivers in Practice 2.

Hauanio claims first pole of 2026 in final qualifying session
Hauanio delivered his strongest qualifying performance of the season on Saturday morning, setting a 1:19.584 to secure pole position for the opening race.
The Crosslink Motorsports driver improved considerably on his practice times, becoming the only competitor to break the 1:20 barrier. Golan came closest to denying him, qualifying second with a 1:19.815, just 0.231 seconds behind.
Shipman completed the top three with a 1:20.048, placing himself in a strong position to defend third in the Drivers’ Championship against Hauanio. Dass qualified fourth, while Bogle and Powers secured fifth and sixth for Toney Driver Development.
Schuh initially recorded a 1:21.097 but lost his fastest qualifying lap after causing a suspension of the session. His next-best lap of 1:21.299 consequently determined seventh place on the official grid, leaving him ahead of Bobadilla and Lawley.
Papasavvas faced a far more difficult session. Having topped Friday afternoon’s practice, the Crosslink driver failed to record a qualifying lap and was placed 15th on the official starting grid. Janzen was also listed as not classified in the provisional results because his 1:28.676 fell outside the 110% qualifying threshold, although he was assigned 14th on the official grid.
The final qualifying order gave Hauanio an opportunity to reduce his championship deficit to Shipman, while Papasavvas faced the prospect of recovering through the field to defend second overall.

Qualifying notes: Schuh lost his fastest lap for causing a session suspension under Stewards’ Decision 805. His provisional best of 1:21.097 was replaced by 1:21.299 on the official grid. Janzen’s lap exceeded the provisional 110% threshold of 1:27.542, while Papasavvas recorded no qualifying time.

Hauanio leads opening stages as Strickland incident brings Safety Car
Hauanio converted pole position into the early lead when Saturday’s opening race began, maintaining his advantage over Golan through the opening corners. The Crosslink driver had an important opportunity to gain points on Shipman, who remained third after starting directly behind the leading pair.
However, the race was interrupted almost immediately following an opening-lap incident involving Masters Cup championship leader Strickland. The Hillenburg Motorsports driver was unable to continue, with officials deploying the Safety Car while the circuit was cleared.
The interruption created an opportunity for Golan, who had already demonstrated strong race pace throughout the season. Although the newly crowned champion had not made the strongest initial start, the restart placed him directly behind Hauanio once again.
When racing resumed, Golan attacked through Turn 6 and completed the decisive overtake on Lap 5. The Toney Driver Development driver took control of the race and began defending his position against Hauanio, who remained close throughout the remaining laps.
Shipman continued following the leading pair, while the rest of the field fought for positions behind them. Papasavvas also made progress after starting last, gradually moving through the order as he attempted to recover valuable championship points.
Golan claims eighth victory as top three finish within one second
Golan successfully defended his position throughout the final ten laps, preventing Hauanio from finding another opportunity to reclaim the lead.
Despite the Crosslink driver’s persistent pressure, Golan crossed the line first after 14 laps to secure his eighth victory of the season. The margin was just 0.496 seconds, highlighting the closely contested nature of the battle.
Shipman completed the podium only 0.972 seconds behind Golan, meaning the leading three drivers finished within one second of one another.
Bogle followed in fourth, with Dass fifth ahead of Powers. Papasavvas produced an important recovery from 15th on the grid to finish seventh, collecting points despite his difficult qualifying session.
Schuh finished eighth, followed by Bobadilla and Lawley. Wisniewski completed the race in 11th, while Autiello claimed 12th overall and victory in the Masters Cup.
The official classification recorded Golan’s race time as 29:24.084, with Shipman setting the fastest race lap of 1:20.835. Hauanio led the opening four laps before Golan controlled the remaining ten.

Half-points allocation decides Masters Cup Championship
The shortened opening race proved decisive in the Masters Cup championship battle, despite Strickland failing to complete a lap.
Janzen entered Barber only 16.5 points behind the championship leader after completing a sweep of the Masters classification at VIR. With 24 points originally available across the weekend, the Crosslink driver still had an opportunity to overturn that deficit.
However, the opening-race interruption resulted in half championship points being awarded, substantially reducing the number available during the final two contests.
Autiello secured the Masters victory in Race 1 after passing Janzen, earning six class points. Janzen finished second and collected 4.5, while Strickland received none following his retirement.
The reduced points meant that Janzen could no longer overcome Strickland’s remaining advantage, with only Sunday’s final race available.
Strickland therefore secured the Masters Cup title despite his early retirement, rewarding the consistency that had allowed him to establish a substantial lead throughout the season.
Shipman’s fastest lap secures pole for Race 2
Although Golan won Saturday’s race, Shipman’s fastest lap of 1:20.835 earned him pole position for Sunday’s season finale.
The Kiwi Motorsport driver had been the quickest competitor during the opening race, finishing just 0.035 seconds ahead of Papasavvas in the fastest-lap classification.
Papasavvas consequently started alongside Shipman on the front row, despite having qualified last for Saturday’s contest. Golan lined up third with a 1:20.897, followed by Powers and Hauanio.
The arrangement provided Shipman with an important opportunity to strengthen his championship position, although Papasavvas remained directly ahead of him in the Drivers’ standings.
Hauanio, meanwhile, faced a more difficult task after qualifying fifth for the finale. Although he had claimed pole and finished second on Saturday, Shipman’s two strong performances had increased the gap between them in the championship battle.
At the rear of the grid, Strickland was assigned 15th after recording no race lap on Saturday, while Janzen lined up 14th for the final Masters contest.

Shipman takes early lead as Papasavvas and Golan collide
Shipman converted pole position into the lead when Sunday’s final race began, immediately taking control at the front of the field.
Behind him, Papasavvas and Golan made contact while contesting second through Turn 1. The incident forced Papasavvas off the racing surface, with all four wheels leaving the circuit before he rejoined in eighth.
Golan continued in second, while Hauanio moved into third, creating another opportunity for the Crosslink driver to challenge for a podium finish.
However, Shipman remained in command throughout the opening phase, maintaining his position ahead of the chasing pack. His main championship rival, Papasavvas, began recovering through the field after losing several places during the opening-lap incident.
The Crosslink driver gradually moved back towards the front as the race progressed, while Golan attempted to keep Shipman within reach.
Hauanio’s race subsequently came to an early end just after the halfway point, denying him an opportunity to challenge for another podium. His retirement also proved costly for Crosslink Motorsports, which remained involved in a closely contested Teams’ Championship battle with Toney Driver Development.
Safety Car restart produces decisive moment in Race 2
The race was interrupted when officials deployed the Safety Car to recover a disabled car, eliminating Shipman’s advantage and placing Golan directly behind him for the restart.
The newly crowned champion immediately attempted to challenge for the lead, moving to the outside of Shipman approaching Turn 1.
However, Golan’s car became unsettled during the manoeuvre, causing him to spin through the opening corner and lose several positions. The incident removed him from immediate victory contention and allowed Shipman to retain the lead.
Papasavvas continued recovering through the field and eventually moved into second with fewer than three minutes remaining. Bogle also progressed from sixth on the grid to third, placing himself in contention for another podium.
Despite the interruption, Shipman maintained control throughout the final laps and crossed the line first after leading all 19 laps.
His victory represented his third of the season and provided Kiwi Motorsport with a successful conclusion to its 2026 FRAC campaign.
Papasavvas and Golan receive ten-second penalties
Although Shipman’s victory was confirmed at the chequered flag, the final classification changed following post-race investigations.
Papasavvas initially finished second after recovering from his opening-lap incident, with Bogle completing the provisional podium.
However, Toney Driver Development lodged a protest on Bogle’s behalf concerning contact between the two drivers earlier in the race.
Following a review, the stewards determined that Papasavvas was responsible for the collision and imposed a ten-second post-race penalty under Stewards’ Decision 808. The sanction dropped him from second to fifth in the official classification.
Bogle was promoted to second, equalling his career-best FRAC finish, while teammate Powers moved into third to secure his sixth podium of the season.
Golan also received a ten-second penalty for forcing another driver off the track during the opening-lap incident with Papasavvas. The sanction, imposed under Stewards’ Decision 807, contributed to his final classification of eighth.
The revised results proved significant for the Teams’ Championship, with Bogle and Powers delivering the points required to secure the title for Toney Driver Development.

Janzen concludes Masters campaign with sixth victory
Janzen finished his 2026 Masters Cup campaign with another class victory, securing his sixth win of the season in Sunday’s finale.
Although he had already been mathematically eliminated from title contention following Saturday’s half-points race, the Crosslink driver produced a strong performance to finish ninth overall.
His result placed him ahead of Autiello, who recovered from a spin to secure second in class, while Strickland completed the Masters podium.
The victory completed an impressive final phase of the season for Janzen, who had won both races at VIR before adding another victory at Barber.
However, Strickland’s consistency throughout the earlier rounds proved decisive. The Hillenburg Motorsports driver completed the championship on 148 points, seven ahead of Janzen, while Autiello finished third with 106.
The Masters Cup therefore concluded with Strickland as champion, Janzen as Vice Champion and Autiello completing the top three.

Toney Driver Development secures Teams’ Championship
Toney Driver Development entered the Barber finale holding a 14-point advantage over Crosslink Motorsports, with both organisations having collected eight victories during the season.
Golan’s victory in Saturday’s opener strengthened the team’s position, although Hauanio’s second-place finish ensured Crosslink remained within reach heading into the final race.
Sunday’s contest ultimately decided the championship, with Bogle and Powers delivering second and third-place finishes for Toney Driver Development. Their performances became particularly important after Golan’s spin and subsequent penalty dropped the newly crowned Drivers’ Champion to eighth.
Crosslink, meanwhile, suffered a costly retirement for Hauanio, while Papasavvas’ ten-second penalty reduced the points available from his recovery drive. Bobadilla finished fourth, but the team’s combined results were insufficient to overturn Toney Driver Development’s advantage.
Toney ultimately secured the Teams’ Championship with 589.5 points, finishing 31.5 ahead of Crosslink on 558. Kiwi Motorsport completed the top three with 357.5, having added a victory through Shipman and competitive results from Dass.
The result completed a championship double for Toney Driver Development, which had already celebrated Golan’s Drivers’ Championship success during the penultimate event at VIR.

Shipman secures third as Papasavvas finishes Vice Champion
Shipman’s victory in Sunday’s finale represented a strong conclusion to his rookie FRAC campaign, bringing his season total to three victories and ten podium finishes.
The Kiwi Motorsport driver entered Barber 26.5 points behind Papasavvas in the Drivers’ Championship but considerably reduced that deficit across the final two races.
Third place on Saturday earned Shipman 7.5 points under the half-points allocation, while Sunday’s victory added another 25. His combined haul brought him to 234.5 points for the season.
Papasavvas remained second overall despite his difficult weekend, collecting three points on Saturday before adding ten for fifth in Sunday’s final classification. He consequently completed the season on 241.5 points, seven ahead of Shipman.
The result secured Papasavvas the $20,000 runner-up prize, while Shipman earned $10,000 for finishing third. Papasavvas also claimed the Rookie Championship, having finished as the highest-ranked rookie in the overall standings.
Hauanio remained fourth on 195.5 points after his retirement in the finale. Although he had started the weekend with pole position and collected another podium in Race 1, the Crosslink driver could not improve his championship position.
Bogle moves ahead of Powers in final standings
Bogle’s second-place finish on Sunday also decided one of the closest remaining battles in the Drivers’ Championship.
The Toney Driver Development driver entered Barber just half a point behind teammate Powers, with both competing for fifth overall.
Bogle finished fourth in Saturday’s opener before being promoted to second in the season finale following Papasavvas’ penalty. His results brought him to 176.5 points, allowing him to finish fifth in the standings.
Powers also concluded the year positively, recording sixth and third across the two races to reach 172 points. However, Bogle’s stronger final weekend meant Powers had to settle for sixth, 4.5 points behind his teammate.
Both drivers contributed significantly to the team’s championship success, particularly in Sunday’s decisive race when their combined podium finishes overcame Golan’s difficult outing.
Further behind, Dass secured seventh in the final standings with 121 points, finishing three ahead of Bobadilla on 118. Schuh completed the top nine with 93, while Lawley rounded out the top ten with 72.5.

Golan and Toney Driver Development conclude championship-winning season
The Barber finale brought the 2026 FRAC Championship to a close after eight event weekends and 20 completed races, with Golan emerging as the dominant driver across the season.
The Toney Driver Development competitor secured eight victories and 14 podium finishes, eventually finishing 57 points ahead of Papasavvas. His championship success had already been confirmed at VIR, but his victory in Saturday’s Barber opener ensured he concluded the campaign with another significant achievement.
Papasavvas finished runner-up after a season in which he remained one of Golan’s closest challengers, while Shipman completed an impressive rookie campaign by claiming the final victory of the year. Hauanio also demonstrated considerable progress throughout the season, recording three victories and nine podium finishes despite narrowly missing the overall top three.
Toney Driver Development’s success extended beyond Golan, with Bogle and Powers providing important contributions to the Teams’ Championship. Their podium finishes in Sunday’s finale ultimately secured the organisation’s second title of the season.
The Masters Cup also reached its conclusion, with Strickland overcoming Janzen’s late challenge to secure the championship. Although Janzen ended the year with another victory, Strickland’s earlier consistency proved decisive.
Barber therefore concluded a competitive FRAC campaign with two different race winners, the remaining championship positions settled and Toney Driver Development completing its championship double. Golan leaves 2026 as Drivers’ Champion, Papasavvas as Vice Champion and Shipman third, while Strickland takes the Masters Cup honours.
