Yani Stevenheydens claimed his maiden GB4 victory after converting pole position into a controlled Race 2 win at Donington Park, completing an impressive first weekend in the championship with Elite Motorsport.
The Belgian made a significantly stronger start than in Race 1 and retained the lead ahead of teammate Fred Green. Two Safety Car periods and several yellow-flag zones repeatedly eliminated his opportunity to build an advantage, but Stevenheydens controlled both restarts and resisted Green through the closing stages to win by 0.334s.
Green completed an Elite Motorsport one-two and reduced Alex O’Grady’s championship advantage, while Enzo Hallman secured third for Hillspeed after passing Torrin Byrne following the first restart. Byrne finished fourth ahead of Thomas Ingram Hill, who overtook O’Grady late in the race to take fifth.
Stevenheydens retains lead from pole
Stevenheydens started from pole for the second time during his GB4 debut weekend after his second-fastest lap from Qualifying also proved quickest of the session. Green once again joined his Elite Motorsport teammate on the front row, with Byrne and Hallman occupying the second row ahead of championship leader O’Grady and Ingram Hill.
Unlike the opening race, when both Green and O’Grady passed him at the start, Stevenheydens produced a strong launch and maintained first place into Redgate. However, he had almost no opportunity to establish an advantage before the race came under Safety Car conditions following an incident further down the field.
Solenn Amrouche ended up in the Redgate gravel after contact with Archie Bullard, forcing officials to neutralise the race almost immediately. Stevenheydens therefore led Green, Byrne and Hallman behind the Safety Car as the field waited for the Arden Motorsport car to be recovered.
Hallman passes Byrne after first restart
Racing resumed with just under 14 minutes remaining, placing Green immediately behind Stevenheydens for the restart. The polesitter managed the acceleration well and prevented his teammate from getting close enough to challenge on the first racing lap, allowing him to maintain control at the front.
The main change among the leaders came immediately behind the Elite Motorsport pair. Hallman attacked Byrne at Goddards and completed the move for third, promoting the Hillspeed driver into the final podium position after starting fourth. Byrne remained close behind but could not immediately respond.
However, the green-flag running again proved brief. Lily-May Watkins went into the gravel at Redgate following another incident involving Bullard, forcing officials to deploy the Safety Car for a second time. The neutralisation again removed any opportunity for Stevenheydens to establish a margin over Green and compressed the field ahead of another late restart.
Further incidents interrupt closing stages
The Safety Car returned to the pits with around six minutes remaining, giving Stevenheydens another restart to manage. He again controlled the field successfully and retained first place, although Green remained close enough to maintain pressure as the race entered its final laps.
Further incidents complicated the restart behind the leaders. Josh McLean, running without his front wing, had a major moment at Goddards on the first lap back under green. Officials allowed the race to continue but displayed double waved yellow flags at the corner, reducing the opportunities for drivers to attack through that section.
Bullard’s eventful race then came to an end at McLeans on Lap 9. His stranded car led to yellow flags at the corner for the remainder of the contest, meaning the closing laps featured restricted overtaking opportunities at multiple points around the Donington Park circuit.
Stevenheydens withstands Green pressure
Despite the repeated interruptions, Stevenheydens maintained his composure at the front. Green remained directly behind during the final laps and gradually reduced the margin, but the Race 1 winner could not get sufficiently close to attempt a decisive move before the chequered flag.
Stevenheydens eventually completed the 12-lap race only 0.334s ahead of his teammate, converting his second pole of the weekend into his first GB4 victory. The result continued an impressive championship debut after the Belgian had already taken both poles and finished third in Race 1.
Green’s second place added another significant result to his Donington weekend after his victory on Saturday. More importantly for the championship, he again finished ahead of O’Grady and reduced the KMR Sport driver’s points advantage before the final race of the weekend.
Hallman completes podium as Ingram Hill passes O’Grady
Hallman maintained third place after his early pass on Byrne and crossed the line 2.150s behind Stevenheydens. Byrne remained within reach throughout the closing stages but ultimately finished fourth, 1.626s behind the Hillspeed driver.
Ingram Hill made important progress late in the contest by passing O’Grady for fifth. The Fortec Motorsports driver finished only 0.246s behind Byrne, while O’Grady had to settle for sixth after starting fifth and therefore lost further ground to Green in their championship battle.
Dayton Coulthard finished seventh for Douglas Motorsport, only 0.390s ahead of Hillspeed’s Connor Willis. John O’Donnell followed in ninth for Pace Performance, while Franciszek Cegielski completed the top 10 for Fortec Motorsports just 0.125s behind O’Donnell.
Grant leads second half of classification
Conor Grant headed the next group in 11th, finishing just over 19 seconds behind Stevenheydens. Demitri Nolan and Romuald Bocquet followed in 12th and 13th respectively, with Jasser Iskander taking 14th ahead of Jamie Leverton and Enzo Rujugiro.
Faris Organji finished 17th ahead of Elite Motorsport’s Matan Achituv, while Holly Miall and Caitlyn McDaniel completed the top 20. Archie Davies and Yana Kapoor were the final classified finishers in 21st and 22nd respectively.
Six drivers failed to finish. Jordyn Martin and Michael Koh both completed 11 laps, while Bullard retired after eight following his incident at McLeans. McLean completed seven laps, Watkins retired after four and Amrouche failed to complete the opening lap after the incident that caused the first Safety Car.

Race 3 will conclude the Donington Park weekend at the amended start time of 17:50 BST. With Green having beaten O’Grady in each of the opening two races, the reverse-grid finale provides another opportunity for the Elite Motorsport driver to reduce the championship deficit before the season reaches its final stages.
