Fred Green topped the opening day of the official 2026 GB4 Championship mid-season test at Snetterton as Elite Motorsport ended Tuesday with a one-two in the combined classification.

The championship leader set the fastest time of the day in the third session, recording a 1:50.017 as conditions shifted from dry to wet running. His benchmark put him 0.149s clear of teammate Charlie Smith, who continued his encouraging GB4 testing form.

Smith, who has not yet raced in GB4, set his best lap while topping the second session. As a result, Elite Motorsport controlled the top of the order as teams and drivers worked through a varied day at the Norfolk venue.

Green controls changing conditions

Green proved the driver to beat as the test moved into its later sessions. The British contender topped both of the final two runs, showing pace as conditions became more challenging.

His 1:50.017 in session three ultimately stood as the quickest lap of the day. Moreover, the result reinforced his position as one of the key benchmarks in the GB4 field as the championship prepares for the second half of the season.

Although Snetterton offered changing grip levels across Tuesday’s running, Green adapted quickly and gave Elite a strong start to the two-day test.

Smith adds to Elite’s strong start

Smith backed up Green’s pace by finishing second overall, just 0.149s away from the championship leader.

The American karter had already shown promising speed during pre-season testing at Silverstone before the opening round. He continued that trend at Snetterton by topping the second session and ending the day as Green’s closest challenger.

His performance also strengthened Elite Motorsport’s position at the front, with the team placing two cars inside the top two and three inside the top seven.

Ingram Hill and Byrne lead the chase

Fortec Motorsport’s Thomas Ingram Hill completed the top three after setting the pace in the opening session.

His early benchmark proved strong enough to keep him third in the combined order, 0.473s away from Green’s best time. However, Pace Performance’s Torrin Byrne followed closely behind, finishing just 0.003s adrift of Ingram Hill in fourth.

Hillspeed’s Connor Willis placed fifth, while Nitrous Competitions ADM Racing’s Luke Hilton completed the top six. Willis ended the day 0.689s off the top, with Hilton a further 0.071s behind.

Cegielski heads rookie runners

Elite’s Matan Achituv took seventh overall after setting his best lap during the third session, adding another strong result for the team.

Fortec’s Franciszek Cegielski followed in eighth and finished as the highest-placed rookie contender. Douglas Motorsport’s Dayton Coulthard and Pace Performance’s John O’Donnell then completed the top 10.

The leading 10 drivers were covered by 1.361s, while 22 drivers took part in Tuesday’s running.

Rohan makes official GB4 test debut

American driver William Rohan made his official GB4 testing debut with Hillspeed, driving Enzo Hallman’s regular car.

Rohan ended the day 15th overall, 2.492s away from Green’s benchmark. His result came during a busy test day that gave several drivers valuable mileage in changing conditions.

Testing resumes at Snetterton on Wednesday, with four further sessions scheduled.
