Round 7 of the 2026 Indy NXT season is in the books as the race at Detroit has been completed, view the full results here.
For the fifth time in 2026, Alessandro de Tullio started on pole position as he went fastest by the slimmest of margins from Tymek Kucharczyk in Group 1. Max Taylor was quickest in Group 2 but his pole chances got thwarted as Carson Etter crashed during it, meaning the tyres had to be put in the window again. There was not enough time for the Andretti man to do it, although he crucially beat Juan Manuel Correa’s previous benchmark.
Championship leader Nikita Johnson had plenty of work to do as he was on the fifth row of the grid. With all his main rivals ahead of him on the grid, keeping it clean and bagging a good result was vital.

Dramatic start
Down into turn 3 off the start, Lochie Hughes lost control of his car in the braking zone and hit polesitter Alessandro de Tullio, with the AJ Foyt Racer ending up with suspension damage. Max Taylor fell down to P19 as he had to take avoiding action in the process.
Kucharczyk led Correa, Fittipaldi, Murray and Rowe. Johnson was P10, with Taylor 19th.
Correa, Taylor and Hughes all got handed penalties upon the restart, with the one given to the #68 very unclear on replays.
Rowe gets aggressive in Indy NXT Detroit race
Having overtaking Fittipaldi and Murray to take 2nd, Myles Rowe went for it on the second restart following a caution for debris as he tried to overtake Kucharczyk for the lead into turn 3. Both ran wide, handing the Brazilian the lead.
Caution number three appeared as Niels Koolen found the tyres when battling Kaminsky.
From P22, Max Taylor used the cautions and brilliant pace to vault up to 8th with five minutes left. That was until he crashed into turn 1 and broke his right front suspension as he went in too hot.
Finishing under yellows, Fittipaldi took the win from Rowe, Kucharczyk, Garcia, Murray and Johnson.
