Kyle Kirkwood is the defending winner of the 2026 IndyCar Detroit GP and was holding strong in Group A during Practice 1 of round 8. Combined standings saw him take second to Palou by a very close margin. The Andretti driver managed to top Practice 2 to keep the momentum going for a strong weekend in Motor City.

Detroit Practice 2 full field standings

The first red flag of Practice 2 at the IndyCar Detroit GP was due to a blue flag being dropped on the track during Group 1. Rinus Veekay brought the second red flag as he crashed into the wall at turn 6. Newgarden found some dirty air on the track and took a spin but managed to avoid the wall.

Kirkwood finishes out the full field strong, followed by McLaughlin and Palou in practice 2 at the 2026 Detroit GP.

Group 1 Results

Lundgaard brought out the first red flag of Group 1 as his car gets extricated off the track. Both him and Robb made no times this session at the IndyCar Detroit GP. Armstrong manages to get himself to the top of the board for some time.

However, top 3 finishes for Group 1 were Palou, Malukas, and Dixon in Motor City.

Group 2 Results

After his crash in the Practice 2 full field, JHR’s VeeKay did not make it onto the track for Group 2 at the 2026 Detroit GP. Kirkwood managed to improve his lap time and finish first ahead of Power and O’Ward.
