Alex Palou started as the biggest of favourites. He was fastest in both practice sessions, before topping every segment of qualifying he was in. Arrow McLaren drivers Pato O’Ward and Christian Lundgaard were 2nd and 4th on the grid. Championship contender Kyle Kirkwood had work to do from 9th to try and keep the Spaniard in sight in both the race and overall standings.

It was a crazy start. Felix Rosenqvist, who started P3, locked up and spun O’Ward, with the Swede also looping around. Collet and Dixon had nowhere to go, clattering into the MSR car. Rinus VeeKay also broke his front wing before Alex Palou accelerated away.

Caution number two came on lap 22 as Alex Rossi’s ECR conked out on the main straight. The top two in the championship did not pit before the caution, leaving them in P19 and P20 for the restart.

A third caution quickly appeared as Sting Ray Robb locked up, spun as he made contact with Pato O’Ward. Simpson and an airborne Felix Rosenqvist could not avoid the chain reaction.

In the fight for a top 5 finish from the back of the field, Will Power was handed a drive-through penalty after locking up and going over the white line on pit exit.

A brilliant fight for the win took place following the last round of stops. While David Malukas came out in front, Christian Lundgaard used his lap warmer tyres to get a run. Going side-by-side through turns 3 and 4, the Dane got the high ground into 5 to take the lead.
