Campos Racing Team Principal Adrian Campos says he is only “25% satisfied” after the Spanish squad successfully defended its FIA F3 Teams’ Championship, with Ugo Ugochukwu still fighting to complete a championship double in Madrid.
Campos secured the Teams’ crown on home soil during Feature Race 1, where Ugochukwu, Théophile Naël and Ernesto Rivera all finished inside the points. The result gave the team its second consecutive F3 Teams’ Championship after first taking the title in 2025.
However, its season is far from finished. Ugochukwu enters Sunday’s Feature Race 2 level with TRIDENT’s Freddie Slater at the top of the Drivers’ standings, while Campos also remains involved in championship battles across FIA Formula 2.
Adrian Campos only ‘25% satisfied’ after second F3 Teams’ title
Despite the significance of securing consecutive Teams’ Championships, Campos immediately turned his attention towards the titles still available to the organisation.
Ugochukwu has the first opportunity to add another trophy, with the American heading into the final F3 race of the season level with Slater on points and ahead on countback.
“Right now, I am 25% satisfied. There are still three more that we need to do our best to achieve. Tomorrow, there is another race, Ugo needs to do the job and try to win the Drivers’ Championship.
“It’s amazing winning back-to-back here in FIA F3, but something that we lost last year was the Drivers’ Championship, and this is something that obviously is a goal this year also, so we can keep improving every year.
“Every year, our goal is to improve what we did in the previous one and it’s happening so far. Regarding F3, if we win both championships, then our goal will be defending it, and we will do our best to do it. But we can always do better.
“Everyone will be improving, everyone will learn, we’ll get better, we’ll get quicker and we will need to in order to stay here, and we will do our best so we can do that.”
Campos Racing missed out on the Drivers’ Championship despite winning the Teams’ title last season. Completing the double in 2026 would therefore represent another step forward for a team that has made year-on-year improvement a central target.
The challenge would then become maintaining that level. Campos made clear that success does not reduce the need to develop, particularly when its rivals will also continue to improve.
Ugochukwu leads strong Campos Racing trio in 2026 F3
Ugochukwu has emerged as the team’s Drivers’ Championship contender after finishing fourth in Feature Race 1.
That result brought him level with Slater on 141 points. However, Ugochukwu holds the championship lead on countback because he has two victories compared with the TRIDENT driver’s one.
Campos praised the American’s campaign but stressed that the Teams’ Championship has been built on strong performances from all three of its drivers.
“All of them have been outstanding, especially Ugo, because he’s the one that is now leading and has the chance to win the Drivers’ title tomorrow,” Campos continued.
“But the other two have been always there. We arrived here P2, P3 and P4 in the championship, so having three drivers in the top four is something that we need to be proud of, so I’m very happy with that.
“Ernesto especially, because he missed the first round because of an injury and when he was back in the car, he was really strong, brought a lot of points and wins to the team.”
That depth has proved crucial to Campos’ successful title defence. Rather than relying solely on Ugochukwu’s championship challenge, Naël and Rivera have regularly contributed substantial points of their own.
Rivera’s season has been particularly notable after an injury kept him out of the opening round. He recovered quickly on his return and established himself among the leading drivers, while Naël has remained another consistent presence near the front of the championship.
Campos wary despite Ugochukwu advantage over Slater
The Teams’ Championship is settled, but Campos is taking nothing for granted ahead of the final Drivers’ title showdown.
Ugochukwu will start Feature Race 2 from second, while Slater faces a more difficult task from eighth after his Qualifying session left him further down the order.
The characteristics of the Madring could make track position particularly valuable. Overtaking has already proved difficult during the weekend, giving Ugochukwu a potentially significant six-place starting advantage over his title rival.
However, Feature Race 1 also demonstrated how quickly a race can change, and Campos does not want his driver taking unnecessary risks when the primary objective is simply to finish ahead of Slater.
“This is a circuit that is not easy to overtake around, so after the quali that we had, the bad luck that Freddie had in Qualifying, everything has gone a bit more in our favour.
“But, we need to keep doing what we have been doing, stay out of trouble, make no mistakes, no crashes and finish the race in the points and in front of Freddie. That’s our goal tomorrow.”
The championship equation means outright victory is not essential for Ugochukwu. With the two drivers level on points, remaining ahead of Slater and outscoring him would be enough to secure the title.
Campos Racing one race away from potential F3 championship double
Campos Racing therefore enters the final race of the 2026 F3 season with one championship secured and another still hanging in the balance.
Retaining the Teams’ Championship has already ensured another successful campaign for the Spanish squad, particularly after all three drivers contributed strongly throughout the year. However, the Drivers’ title represents the achievement that escaped the team last season.
Ugochukwu arrives at the finale in the stronger starting position, with second on the grid compared with Slater’s eighth, but Campos’ message remains focused on execution rather than taking the advantage for granted.
A clean race and a finish ahead of Slater would complete the championship double on home soil. Until then, despite celebrating another Teams’ crown, Campos remains only “25% satisfied.”
