As Formula E heads to the iconic streets of Monaco for the sixth and seventh race of the 2024/2025 season, Cupra Kiro driver David Beckmann shared his thoughts with Pit Debrief, on returning to the prestigious circuit where he competed back in 2021.

A “very special” race for Beckmann

“It’s always very special to be here,” Beckmann reflected ahead of the Monaco E-Prix. “I think most drivers, obviously, when you start racing, like you start racing go-karts, you see Monaco playing on PlayStation and stuff, and then you are finally here as a real driver. It’s always a very special moment.”

The German driver’s history with the circuit dates back to 2021, when he made his Formula 2 debut on these very streets. “2021 was the first race, and the only race I actually did in F2 here, so it was a very nice experience,” he explained.

In recent years, Beckmann has experienced Monaco from a different perspective. “The past years I was here as a reserve driver, so I didn’t drive, but, obviously, I observed everything. And now I’m here, finally as a full-time Formula E driver, and it’s really nice to be back on track, and we’re looking forward to Saturday and Sunday.”

Seeking redemption after Miami

Beckmann will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing outing at the Miami E-Prix, where what started as a promising weekend ended in an early retirement.

After qualifying in an impressive eighth position at the Homestead-Miami Speedway, the Cupra Kiro driver showed early pace, climbing as high as eleventh in the opening stages of the race. However, his fortunes took a downturn midway through the event.

At around Lap 13, Beckmann received a black-and-white warning flag for repeated track limits violations, particularly at Turn 12—an issue that plagued several drivers throughout the race. His troubles escalated when he began experiencing tire issues, forcing him to make an unscheduled pit stop that dropped him to the back of the field.

Despite rejoining the race, the technical problems persisted, ultimately leading to his retirement before the chaotic final stages that saw a three-car crash bring out the red flag. The Miami race eventually concluded with a four-lap sprint that saw TAG Heuer Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein claim victory after Norman Nato crossed the line first but was later penalized for ATTACK Mode misusage.

As Beckmann prepares for the Monaco double-header, he’ll be hoping to capitalise on his familiarity with the circuit and convert his qualifying pace into a strong race result. The challenges of Monaco’s tight street circuit could provide the perfect opportunity for the young driver to showcase his skills and claim his first points of the 2025 Formula E season.
