Mahindra Racing has confirmed their intention to retain their Gen3 driver duo of Nyck de Vries and Edoardo Mortara for the upcoming introduction of Gen4 in Formula E. The partnership, which had begun back in Season 2023/2024, allowed the Indian outlet to secure several great points finishes, as well as podiums and race wins.
Mahindra Racing throughout the years
The consistent and experienced driver duo helped Mahindra to develop into a strong force. As expected, season 2023/2024 was a learning curve for both sides of the garage, with an upturn towards the later stages of the year. In fact, in the final few rounds De Vries secured the team’s best finish in P4 and Mortara ended thrice in the top ten.
The following season saw De Vries bring the Banbury-based team back on the podium in Monaco, with the Dutch driver eventually totalling three second places throughout the year and Mortara up there twice.
Season 12 confirmed Mahindra as a team to watch, as they replicated their best final championship position by achieving a great points haul of 252. The former F1 driver secured two rather impressive race wins, in Monaco and Tokyo, with Mortara instead amassing the highest amount of pole positions of the season.
Overall, the Mahindra driver duo was incredibly pleased with the announcement of their return for the inaugural Gen4 season, as De Vries highlighted the strong progress the team has been making.
“The past three years with Mahindra Racing have been a very rewarding journey. We’ve made a lot of progress together, and finishing third in the Teams’ Championship last season was a great reward for all the hard work everyone across the team has put in. I’m very proud of what we’ve achieved together and the direction we’ve been moving in.”
Much to look forward in Season 13
The previous Formula E World Champion, who has won the 24H of Le Mans with Toyota in the current season, is excited for the new technologies, set to debut in the upcoming November testing session in Madrid.
“I’m very happy to continue with Mahindra Racing as we enter the GEN4 era. It represents a completely new challenge for everyone in Formula E, with a lot to learn and discover. I’m excited to take that on with the team and see where this next chapter takes us.”
Mortara agreed upon the great sensation and content in securing yet another deal with Mahindra, underlining the importance his experience will have amidst the rule change.
“I’m really happy to continue with the team. Our collaboration over the past three seasons has been very positive, with results steadily improving along the way. Together, we’ve lifted our performance at every level, and I’m proud of what we’ve built. Entering my tenth Formula E season, we know the year ahead will be a real challenge, especially on the technical side, with so much that is new. I’m curious and excited to take on that challenge with the team as we move to the new GEN4 cars.”
