The past two race weekends have been a whirlwind of emotions for Lucas di Grassi, with the Miami round an incredible highlight and the Monaco double header a much more challenging time.
All the feelings
In fact, in the previous American round the Lola Yamaha driver had managed to secure his first podium since season 9. However, the past weekend in the principality has not been as successful for the Brazilian.
Di Grassi didn’t manage to score a single point over the span of Rounds 6 and 7 of the Monaco E-Prix, even crashing out in the early stage of the second race on Sunday. The accident happened as the former Mahindra driver tried to overtake Andretti’s Jake Dennis at Turn 1 and caused the first full course yellow of the day.
What did he say after the race?
Di Grassi commented on his challenging Monaco E-Prix double header after the end of Race 2, highlighting the reasons him and his teammate Zane Maloney struggled the most in the mixed Monegasque conditions.
“Overall it was a difficult weekend, we didn’t have the pace in the dry and although we made improvements, we were still lacking in pace. Today with the rain we were able to qualify better and were just a few hundredths from the duels.”
Especially the wet surface of track didn’t suit the newcomer team on the Formula E grid. The combination of specifics which work less with the usual car package and a misjudgement of his own.
“In general, in the race we struggled and I took too much risk, tried too hard and ended up making a mistake and crashing the car.”
More to come
The Brazilian looks forward to the next opportunity to recover and try to achieve a better final result, which will come in two weeks time in Japan.
“We will continue working and developing as we head to Tokyo and try to score more points there. We will never give up and will keep on fighting.”
