Maro Engel strengthened his position at the top of the 2026 DTM Drivers’ Championship standings during Round 5 at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben.
The Mercedes-AMG Team Ravenol driver finished third in Race 1 before taking second on Sunday. Consequently, Engel increased his total to 145 points and established a 21-point advantage over former championship leader Nicki Thiim.
However, Thomas Preining scored the most points across the weekend. The Manthey driver topped both Practice sessions, claimed two pole positions, won Race 1 and finished third in Race 2. As a result, he climbed from eighth to fourth in the standings.
Meanwhile, Mirko Bortolotti secured Race 2 victory and delivered the Lamborghini Temerario GT3’s first win in global competition. The result lifted him four positions into the championship top 10.
Preining dominates Oschersleben’s opening sessions
Preining established himself as the driver to beat from the beginning of the weekend. The Austrian led both Friday Practice sessions as Manthey secured two one-two results with Ricardo Feller. Preining recorded his fastest Friday lap during FP2, beating his teammate before Luca Engstler completed the top three. Preining then produced a 1:21.862 to claim Saturday’s pole position. Engstler qualified only 0.070 seconds behind, while Engel secured third and collected one championship point.
The Manthey driver converted pole into a commanding Race 1 victory. Engstler finished second after moving ahead of Engel during the mandatory pit-stop cycle, while the Mercedes-AMG driver completed the podium and took control of the championship.
Preining continued his run on Sunday morning by claiming another pole in Qualifying 2. Engstler again joined him on the front row, while Marco Wittmann collected the final Qualifying point in third. However, a problem during Manthey’s second Race 2 pit stop cost Preining the lead. Bortolotti and Engel moved ahead, leaving Preining to defend third from Wittmann during the closing laps.
Engel converts consistency into 21-point advantage
Engel entered Oschersleben second in the Drivers’ Championship with 108 points, nine behind Thiim. He added one point by qualifying third on Saturday before finishing Race 1 in the same position. Although a slow pit stop cost him second, his podium moved him ahead of Thiim and into the championship lead.
Engel then started Race 2 from fifth. Nevertheless, a strong opening stint, a late first stop and efficient work from Mercedes-AMG Team Ravenol moved him into third during the first pit cycle. The team gained another position during the second stops when Manthey encountered trouble with Preining’s left-rear wheel. Engel subsequently finished second behind Bortolotti.
Therefore, Engel scored 37 points across the weekend and increased his total from 108 to 145. He now leads Thiim by 21 points with six races remaining.
Thiim loses championship lead after difficult Qualifying sessions
Thiim arrived at Oschersleben with 117 points and a nine-point advantage over Engel. However, the Comtoyou Racing driver struggled throughout both Qualifying sessions. He started Race 1 from P18 before recovering to P12 and adding four points. Thiim faced another difficult grid position on Sunday after qualifying P19. He eventually finished Race 2 in P13 and collected another three points.
Although he increased his total to 124, he dropped from first to second. Furthermore, Lucas Auer now sits only one point behind him.
Auer remains third in 2026 DTM standings despite difficult Sunday at Oschersleben
Auer maintained his place among the leading championship contenders. The Mercedes-AMG Team Landgraf driver qualified fourth for Race 1 and retained that position despite sustained pressure from Bortolotti. He therefore collected 13 points and remained within reach of Engel. However, an off-track moment during Qualifying 2 left Auer near the rear of Sunday’s grid. He recovered from P16 to finish P12 and add four more points.
Auer increased his total from 106 to 123. He remains third, two points behind Thiim and 22 behind Engel.
Preining climbs four places into title contention
Preining made the largest gain among the leading championship contenders. He entered Round 5 eighth on 70 points. However, his two poles, Race 1 victory and Race 2 podium added 47 points to his total. The Manthey driver consequently climbed four positions into fourth on 117 points. He trails Engel by 28 points but sits only seven behind Thiim and six behind Auer. Preining also moved ahead of Cairoli, Maini, Wittmann and Dörr during his standout weekend.
His Oschersleben performance included 110 race points and seven Qualifying points across the opening five rounds, making him the highest-ranked Porsche driver.
Cairoli holds fifth ahead of Maini on countback
Matteo Cairoli and Arjun Maini left Oschersleben level on 94 points. Cairoli entered the round fourth but qualified outside the leading positions in both sessions. The Emil Frey Racing driver finished P11 on Saturday before recovering to P10 in Race 2. His 11-point weekend increased his total from 83 to 94. However, Preining’s rise pushed him down to fifth.
Maini enjoyed a stronger round. The HRT Ford Racing driver recovered from P12 to sixth in Race 1 before qualifying fourth and finishing sixth again on Sunday. He added 20 points and climbed from seventh to sixth. Although he drew level with Cairoli, the Ferrari driver retains fifth on countback through his superior race results.
Wittmann slips to seventh despite Race 2 recovery
Wittmann endured contrasting races during Schubert Motorsport’s home event. A puncture forced him to retire from Race 1 without scoring. However, he responded by qualifying third for Sunday’s contest and collecting one bonus point. The two-time champion then finished fourth after pressuring Preining throughout the closing laps.
Wittmann added 14 points and increased his total from 77 to 91. Nevertheless, Preining and Maini moved ahead, dropping him from fifth to seventh.
Dörr and Vermeulen lose ground in 2026 DTM Standings at Oschersleben
Ben Dörr entered Oschersleben sixth in the championship after scoring consistently across the opening four rounds. However, contact with Jules Gounon caused a puncture and ended Dörr’s Race 1 during the opening lap. A grid penalty then complicated his Sunday, and he finished Race 2 outside the points. Consequently, Dörr remained on 76 points and dropped two positions to eighth.
Thierry Vermeulen added eight points through ninth in Race 1 and 15th in Race 2. He increased his total from 67 to 75 and retained ninth. However, Bortolotti’s Race 2 victory brought the Lamborghini driver to within two points of Vermeulen.
Bortolotti surges into top 10 after historic win
Bortolotti arrived at Oschersleben 14th in the standings with 37 points. He qualified seventh before finishing fifth in Race 1, adding 11 points after applying late pressure to Auer. The TGI Team by GRT driver then started Race 2 from sixth. He extended his first stint, used the overcut to move into second and remained close behind Preining throughout the middle phase. A rapid second pit stop moved Bortolotti into the lead. He then controlled the closing laps and secured the Lamborghini Temerario GT3’s first victory anywhere in the world.
Bortolotti scored 36 points across the weekend and increased his total to 73. Consequently, he climbed four positions into 10th and moved within three points of Dörr in eighth.
Van der Linde closes on Bortolotti in 2026 DTM Standings at Oschersleben
Kelvin van der Linde scored nine points in each Oschersleben race. The Schubert Motorsport driver recovered eight positions to finish seventh on Saturday. He then qualified seventh and repeated that result in Race 2.
Van der Linde added 18 points and climbed from 12th to 11th with 72. He sits only one point behind Bortolotti and three behind Vermeulen.
Engstler makes major gain after breakthrough weekend
Engstler produced one of the strongest weekends of his DTM career. He qualified second in both sessions and finished Race 1 in the same position, securing the Temerario GT3’s first DTM podium. The Red Bull Team Abt driver also challenged Preining at the beginning of Race 2. However, a wheel-gun problem during the opening pit stop cost him positions, and he eventually finished fifth.
Engstler added 35 points and increased his total from 32 to 67. Therefore, he climbed three places from 15th to 12th. He also moved one point ahead of Gounon, who now occupies 13th.
Gounon, Feller and Wiebelhaus complete midfield group
Gounon retired from Race 1 following his opening-lap contact with Dörr and did not score despite appearing 15th in the result. He recovered to ninth on Sunday and added seven points. However, Engstler’s larger haul pushed him from 11th to 13th on 66 points.
Feller scored in both races for Manthey. He finished 10th on Saturday and eighth on Sunday, adding 14 points. The Swiss driver increased his total to 64 but dropped one position to 14th because Engstler moved ahead.
Finn Wiebelhaus failed to score after retiring from both races. He consequently remained on 63 points and fell five positions from 10th to 15th.

Engel holds a 21-point advantage over Thiim. However, only seven points separate Thiim in second and Preining in fourth, while Cairoli leads Maini on countback after the pair reached 94 points.
Winward Racing extends Teams’ Championship lead
Winward Racing retained first place and increased its total from 162 to 205 points. Engel contributed 36 race points through third and second, while Gounon added seven through his Sunday result. Their combined haul extended the team’s championship advantage despite Gounon’s Saturday retirement.
Winward now leads Manthey by 31 points.
Manthey jumps from sixth to second
Manthey made the largest gain at the front of the Teams’ Championship. Preining contributed 41 race points through victory and third, while Feller added another 14. Therefore, the Porsche team collected 55 race points and increased its total from 119 to 174. Consequently, Manthey climbed four positions from sixth to second.
The team moved ahead of Emil Frey Racing, Schubert Motorsport, HRT Ford Racing and Landgraf Motorsport during one weekend.
Emil Frey Racing holds third while Schubert Motorsport remains fouth
Emil Frey Racing added points through both drivers in each race. Cairoli finished 11th and 10th, while Vermeulen took ninth and 15th. Their combined results moved the Ferrari team from 141 to 160 points. However, Manthey’s substantial haul pushed Emil Frey Racing from second to third. The team now trails Manthey by 14 points and leads Schubert Motorsport by four.
Meanwhile, Schubert Motorsport retained fourth after a mixed home weekend. Wittmann failed to score on Saturday but finished fourth on Sunday. Meanwhile, van der Linde claimed seventh in both races. The BMW team added 31 points and increased its total to 156. It now sits four points behind Emil Frey Racing and 10 ahead of HRT Ford Racing.
HRT and Landgraf lose positions
HRT Ford Racing dropped from third to fifth despite Maini finishing sixth in both races. Maini added 20 points, while Wiebelhaus failed to score. The team therefore increased its total to 146 but lost positions to Manthey and Schubert Motorsport.
Landgraf Motorsport also dropped one place to sixth. Auer and Kalender combined for 20 race points, taking the Mercedes-AMG team to 144. Only two points now separate HRT and Landgraf.
ABT draws level with Dörr Motorsport in 2026 DTM Standings at Oschersleben
Dörr Motorsport and ABT Sportsline now sit level on 95 points. Glock scored eight points for Dörr Motorsport in Race 1, while Dörr failed to add to the team’s total. Meanwhile, Engstler and Mapelli combined for 33 points across the weekend. Their haul allowed ABT to close a 25-point pre-round deficit.
Dörr Motorsport retains eighth on countback through its earlier race victory, leaving ABT ninth.

Mercedes-AMG retains Manufacturers’ Championship control
Mercedes-AMG maintained a commanding advantage in the Manufacturers’ Championship. Engel, Auer and Gounon supplied the brand’s strongest results, allowing it to increase its total to 277 points.
Mercedes-AMG now leads Porsche by 84 points after five rounds.
Porsche moves into second
Porsche climbed from third to second following Manthey’s exceptional weekend. Preining won Race 1 and finished third in Race 2, while Feller added two top-10 finishes. Buus also scored in both races for Land-Motorsport.
As a result, Porsche reached 193 points and moved ahead of Ferrari.
Lamborghini rises four positions in 2026 DTM standings after landmark Oschersleben weekend
Lamborghini made the largest gain in the Manufacturers’ Championship. Engstler finished second and fifth, while Bortolotti added fifth place before winning Race 2. Mapelli also secured points in the second contest. Their combined results lifted Lamborghini from seventh to third with 175 points.
The manufacturer now sits two points ahead of Ferrari and only 18 behind Porsche.
Ferrari drops from second to fourth
Ferrari lost two positions despite scoring through Cairoli and Vermeulen in both races. The manufacturer increased its total to 172 points but fell behind Porsche and Lamborghini. Nevertheless, Ferrari trails Lamborghini by only three points and Porsche by 21, keeping all three manufacturers closely matched behind Mercedes-AMG.
BMW moves ahead of Ford
BMW reached 161 points after van der Linde scored twice and Wittmann finished fourth in Race 2. The manufacturer retained fifth but moved four points ahead of Ford, which dropped to sixth despite Maini’s two sixth-place finishes.
Aston Martin follows in seventh on 136 points, while McLaren completes the classification with 111.

Engel leads as Preining and Lamborghini gain momentum
Oschersleben transformed the championship picture after Thiim’s perfect Norisring weekend. Engel used two podium finishes to move from second into a commanding championship lead. Meanwhile, Preining’s dominant form brought the Manthey driver back into title contention, only 28 points behind with three rounds remaining. Bortolotti and Engstler also transformed Lamborghini’s position. Their combined performances delivered the Temerario GT3’s first podium and victory while moving the manufacturer from seventh to third.
In the Teams’ Championship, Winward Racing remains the benchmark. However, Manthey’s four-position rise introduced another major challenger before the championship continues at the Nürburgring.
With Engel leading Thiim, Auer and Preining, the opening five rounds have produced a four-driver title group separated by 28 points. Meanwhile, the close battles behind them ensure that Oschersleben’s major movers must maintain their momentum throughout the final six races.
