FP2 at the 2025 F1 British GP is in the books as the second session on Friday has been run, view the full report and results below.
Lewis Hamilton was quickest in FP1. Yuki Tsunoda and Nico Hülkenberg returned to their cars after Lindblad and Aron ran in the opening session.
Medium running
Carlos Sainz kicked things off in FP2 as he did a 1:28.319. However it was Lewis Hamilton showing the way again as he logged a 1:27.280 to lead Charles Leclerc by 0.215s. Despite a hairy moment with a Sauber at Copse, Norris went 3rd.
On his first attempt, Max Verstappen slotted into P2, 0.059s away from his old rival.
Hamilton led Verstappen, Leclerc, Norris, Antonelli, Lawson, Russell, Hadjar, Colapinto and Stroll after everyone had completed a flying lap.
After a relatively poor first attempt, championship leader Oscar Piastri pumped in a 1:27.196 to go fastest. Seconds later Carlos Sainz moved up to 4th, 0.290s away.
Racing Bulls continued to impress as Isack Hadjar went top for a few seconds, before Lewis Hamilton did a 1:26.902 to go P1 once again by 0.160s. George Russell also got ahead of Oscar Piastri for 3rd.
Leclerc, Antonelli and Norris were also well in the game as 0.337s covered the top 7.
At Luffield, Carlos Sainz dropped it as he got on power. The Spanaird almost collected Lewis Hamilton who was off the racing line and getting out of the way.
Ferrari continued to impress on the mediums as a 1:26.887 from Charles Leclerc put him 0.015s ahead of Lewis Hamilton, with Oscar Piastri a hundreth back from the Brit at the 20-minute mark.
Rapid first and third sectors the seven-time World Champion saw him reclaim 1st as a 1:26.592 was good enough to be fastest by 0.295s. Leclerc, Piastri, Hadjar, Russell, Albon, Antonelli, Norris, Verstappen and Sainz completed the top 10.
Soft tyre running in FP2 at the F1 British GP
Once drivers moved to the soft tyres, Kimi Antonelli clocked a 1:26.383, outpacing George Russell by 0.140s. Isack Hadjar was a thousandth slower than the Brit.
A 1:26.202 from Charles Leclerc put him P1 as Lewis Hamilton abandoned his first lap. The Monegasque was complaining about the front left corner of his car, feeling he was losing time.
Three purple sectors from Lando Norris saw the Brit log a 1:25.816 to put him 0.386s clear. Oscar Piastri was struggling with understeer as he was 0.470s away from his teammate.
After going again, Lewis Hamilton went P2, 0.301s away from the rapid McLaren in the hands of his fellow Brit. Leclerc responded, however, taking P2 back as he got within 0.222s seconds of Norris.
Red Bull struggles continued. Max Verstappen only went P9 on his first attempt. Despite fighting understeer like Piastri, he managed to haul his RB21 up to 5th on a second push.
Just like in Austria practice, Lance Stroll did a great lap as he led the midfield runners, splitting the Mercedes drivers to go P7. The Racing Bulls of Hadjar and Lawson completed the top 10 after the qualifying simulations.
Albon, Alonso, Bortoleto, Ocon, Tsunoda, Sainz, Hülkenberg, Gasly, Bearman and Colapinto completed the order.
On the race simulations, Ferrari and McLaren looked very strong, suggesting the Scuderia will be the main challengers to the Woking-based squad again this weekend.
Into turn 3, Lando Norris had a right front lock-up as he very briefly took to the run-off because of running deep. Yuki Tsunoda repeated it a few moments later.
