Mari Boya’s 2025 FIA F3 season with Campos Racing was a study in resilience. The 21-year-old Spaniard’s campaign began amid frustration and poor results, yet ended with him celebrating his career-best finish — P2 in the Drivers’ Championship. Alongside helping Campos secure their maiden F3 Teams’ title, Boya established himself as one of the most composed and complete drivers in the 2025 field. His story this year was not about overnight success, but about steady, intelligent growth — a hallmark of a racer ready for the next step.

Early struggles as 2025 gets off to a difficult start

The opening phase of Boya’s season offered few signs of the glory to come. Melbourne set the tone for a difficult start. After a disrupted Qualifying left him 23rd, Boya could only climb to 12th in the Sprint and 17th in the Feature — no points, but a determined recovery. In Sakhir, the story was similar: P20 in Qualifying, and a valiant push to finish eighth in the Feature, his first points of the year.

At Imola, things began to turn. He qualified tenth and started the Sprint from third on the reversed grid, only to retire early after a mechanical issue. Unfazed, Boya fought back to fifth in the Feature, showing pace and patience. Then came Monte Carlo — a weekend that would redefine his season. Qualifying second in Group A and third overall, Boya delivered a calm and clinical drive to finish third in the Feature Race, his first podium of 2025. His ability to withstand pressure on the narrow streets of Monaco proved his growing maturity.

The Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona offered a bittersweet homecoming. After qualifying 15th, Boya charged to seventh in the Sprint but suffered a heartbreaking penalty in the Feature, dropping from P10 to P22 for leaving the track and gaining an advantage. Though the result stung, it revealed a key theme of Boya’s year — he always fought back.

Momentum gained from mid-season

From the mid-season point onward, Boya’s campaign gathered irresistible momentum. At Spielberg, he turned a modest fourteenth on the grid into another stellar drive, surging to third in the Feature Race. Silverstone followed, and there Boya was at his very best. Qualifying fourth, he finished third in the Sprint before dominating the Feature Race for his maiden FIA Formula 3 victory. It was a statement win — controlled, confident, and richly deserved.

Even Spa-Francorchamps, where the Feature Race was cancelled due to weather, failed to derail his rhythm. When the series resumed in Hungary, Boya delivered another near-perfect weekend, qualifying second, finishing seventh in the Sprint, and then taking a commanding P2 in the Feature. By the time the field reached Monza, Boya had climbed to second in the standings, locked in a tight duel with his Campos teammate Nikola Tsolov for the runner-up spot. Despite a tough P17 qualifying effort and traffic-filled races, Boya secured enough points with fifth in the Sprint and ninth in the Feature to end the season second overall — a phenomenal turnaround from his early form.

Defining moments of 2025

Two rounds defined Boya’s season. The first was Monaco — a circuit where mistakes are punished instantly, yet Boya produced one of the most precise drives of his career. His Feature Race podium gave Campos Racing their first glimpse of title-contending form and injected belief throughout the team.

The second came at Silverstone, where Boya’s performance symbolised his transformation. In tricky, damp conditions, he displayed both aggression and composure, mastering the new F3 car’s handling and seizing victory. That win not only elevated him in the standings but also solidified Campos’ momentum in the Teams’ fight.

Off the track, Boya’s announcement as the first recruit of the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team Driver Academy became another career milestone. The partnership provided access to elite resources and mentorship, complementing the confidence he was already building on the grid.

Lessons and growth – The making of a complete racer

Boya’s third year in F3 showed how experience and attitude can shape a career. Once notorious for inconsistent Qualifying sessions, he transformed this weakness into a manageable challenge, often compensating with intelligent race management and decisive overtakes. Campos Racing’s Team Principal Adrián Campos Jr credited Boya’s evolution to increased maturity and mental balance, noting that he had learned to “perform when it matters most.”

Mari Boya’s 2025 season stands as one of the most impressive comebacks in modern FIA Formula 3. From qualifying 23rd in Melbourne to standing on the top step at Silverstone, his journey captured the essence of racing perseverance. Securing P2 in the Drivers’ Championship and helping Campos Racing to their historic first Teams’ Championship title, Boya closed his F3 chapter with pride and purpose.

Now aligned with Aston Martin’s Driver Academy and equipped with the maturity forged through three demanding seasons, Boya looks ready to take the next leap — most likely into Formula 2. Whatever comes next, his 2025 campaign will be remembered not just for results, but for the spirit of resilience that defined it.
