The F4 German Championship certified by FIA has confirmed a 14-team field for its 2027 season, with more than 70 potential entries applying to take part in the return of FIA-certified Formula 4 racing to Germany.
Promoter GEDLICH Racing selected teams representing eight nations, including four German-based operations, for the championship’s first season. The grid combines established junior single-seater teams with new projects from organisations and figures with experience across Formula 1, endurance racing, GT competition and touring cars.
Three teams have committed to the maximum four-car entry, while several organisations already compete in GEDLICH Racing’s Formula Winter Series. The championship will contest seven events, five alongside DTM, and will also feature a €500,000 Race For Gold prize fund.
Fourteen teams selected from more than 70 potential entries
Interest in the revived German Formula 4 category significantly exceeded GEDLICH Racing’s expectations, with applications representing more than 70 potential entries received before the promoter selected its final 14 teams.
The confirmed 2027 field includes Van Amersfoort Racing, Mathilda Racing, VANWALL F4 Racing, LN4 Fusion, FS Motorsports, Jenzer Motorsport, STEP Motorsport, Renauer Motorsport, CRAM, AS Motorsport, Dutt Motorsport, drive.solutions, Comtoyou Racing and PK Carsport.
GEDLICH Racing’s Robin Selbach believes the level of interest demonstrates the demand for a national junior single-seater championship in Germany.
“The huge interest in our F4 German Championship is a vivid indicator of the region’s desire for junior single-seater competition. Enquiries totalling over 70 potential entries exceeded our internal expectations, and allowed us to curate a compelling list of participants for the first season.”
With more than six months remaining until the opening event, Selbach added that the response had already created considerable excitement around the new championship.
“We are over six months from the first race start, and we’re already feeling immense anticipation!”
Van Amersfoort returns to German Formula 4
Van Amersfoort Racing will field four cars as one of the championship’s largest operations. The Dutch team already competes throughout the FIA junior single-seater ladder and brings considerable experience of German Formula 4 competition to the new series.
VAR previously won two titles in the former ADAC Formula 4 Championship, claiming honours in 2020 and 2021. Its involvement therefore reconnects one of the most established names from Germany’s previous F4 era with the category’s return in 2027.
The Dutch organisation also has experience within GEDLICH Racing’s structure through the Formula Winter Series, creating further crossover between the winter championship and the new German campaign.
Mathilda Racing expands four-car programme
Mathilda Racing will also operate four cars as it continues the rapid expansion of its junior single-seater programme. The German team made its Formula Winter Series debut in 2026 and will increase its commitment to Formula 4 through the new championship.
Experienced Nürburgring competitor Michael Paatz will oversee the operation. Paatz, the father of F1 Academy driver Mathilda Paatz, brings experience from German motorsport as the organisation develops its place within the junior racing landscape.
The four-car commitment makes Mathilda Racing one of the largest teams on the 2027 grid and provides another German-based operation with a significant presence in the championship.
Kolles and Carlin front new VANWALL F4 project
VANWALL F4 Racing represents one of the highest-profile new projects joining the series. The newly established operation will run four cars and combine the experience of Colin Kolles with Team Principal Trevor Carlin.
The programme will operate from the ByKOLLES base, which has previously supported endurance racing activities and road-going hypercar development. Kolles brings experience from Formula 1 and DTM, while Carlin has spent decades running teams throughout the junior single-seater ladder.
Their involvement gives the championship another operation with extensive experience at higher levels of motorsport, despite VANWALL F4 Racing itself beginning as a new project for 2027.
Lando Norris-backed LN4 Fusion joins German championship
LN4 Fusion has expanded its plans for 2027 to include the F4 German Championship. The team was co-founded by 2025 Formula 1 World Champion Lando Norris and will add the German series to its developing junior racing programme.
Norris has his own history in German Formula 4, having previously won races in the country during his junior career. The team carrying his brand will now attempt to establish itself in the same market as it begins its own competitive programme.
Swiss-based FS Motorsports will also join the grid during its first full season of competition. Brazilian motorsport promoter Mauricio Slaviero and factory racing star Augusto Farfus co-founded the operation, which will add FIA-certified Formula 4 to its plans for 2027.
Formula Winter Series teams strengthen grid
A significant portion of the F4 Germany field already has experience within GEDLICH Racing’s Formula Winter Series. That crossover extends beyond Van Amersfoort and Mathilda Racing and gives the promoter a base of teams already familiar with its sporting environment.
Jenzer Motorsport joins after competing in every edition of the Formula Winter Series. The Swiss team also brings direct experience from the previous German Formula 4 structure, having contested seven seasons of ADAC F4.
STEP Motorsport, Renauer Motorsport, CRAM and AS Motorsport also move across from the Formula Winter Series after participating in the 2026 campaign. Their inclusion strengthens the connection between GEDLICH Racing’s winter competition and its new German championship.
Dutt Motorsport and drive.solutions add new German projects
Two newer German operations will also form part of the 2027 field. Sportscar racer Laurents Hörr will manage Dutt Motorsport’s multi-car programme as the Stuttgart-based organisation continues its expansion into Formula 4.
Dutt Motorsport is currently contesting its first F4 season and quickly confirmed its intention to join the German championship. The project gives Hörr an opportunity to build a junior single-seater operation alongside his own racing career.
The drive.solutions team will make its Formula 4 debut in the championship. Experienced racer Sascha Herz leads the operation, which already has experience preparing single-seaters for both circuit competition and hillclimbs.
Together, the two projects add further German representation to a field that GEDLICH Racing hopes will help rebuild a domestic pathway for young drivers.
Comtoyou and PK Carsport move into Formula 4
Belgium will contribute two teams through Comtoyou Racing and PK Carsport, with both organisations expanding beyond their established activities in other categories.
Comtoyou has built extensive experience in GT and touring car racing, while PK Carsport has also established its reputation outside junior single-seaters. Their entry into F4 therefore opens a new chapter for both teams and adds further variety to the championship’s international grid.
Their arrival also reinforces the breadth of interest generated by the new championship, with the selected field combining traditional formula racing teams and organisations branching into junior single-seaters for the first time.

Seven-round season to begin at Oschersleben
The F4 German Championship will contest seven events during its inaugural GEDLICH Racing-run campaign, with five taking place as part of the DTM weekend package. The arrangement gives the new championship access to one of Germany’s most established motorsport platforms while placing its young drivers in front of a significant domestic audience.
GEDLICH Racing will also distribute prizes worth €500,000 through its Race For Gold programme. The scheme will reward the overall champion, leading rookie and highest-placed female competitor, while further prizes will be awarded during the season.
GEDLICH Racing is working alongside the FIA and DMSB to establish the championship as a new pathway for drivers developing through junior single-seater competition in Germany and elsewhere in Europe.
The first season will begin at Oschersleben from 7-9 May 2027, marking the return of FIA-certified Formula 4 championship racing to Germany with an international 14-team field.
