The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the Automobile Club d’Italia (ACI) have confirmed the ten teams that will compete in the 2026 FIA Formula Regional European Championship (FREC). This marks the first season in which the series will operate under full FIA status, solidifying its role as the key stepping stone between FIA-certified Formula 4 and FIA Formula 3.

The announcement highlights the FIA’s strengthened involvement in governance, alongside ACI Sport, and introduces a new technical package featuring the Gen 2 T-326 chassis, Autotecnica-built Toyota engines, and new tyres. Consequently, the 2026 season will represent both a technical and organisational evolution for the series.

Confirmed teams for 2026

The selected teams for 2026 are:

  • ART Grand Prix
  • CL Motorsport
  • G4 Racing
  • MP Motorsport
  • Prema Racing
  • R-ace GP
  • Rodin Motorsport
  • RPM
  • Trident Motorsport
  • Van Amersfoort Racing

This line-up combines established frontrunners with ambitious new entrants, ensuring a high-quality grid for the upcoming season.

Departures from the grid

While the FIA confirmed the new roster, several teams will step away from FREC. Neither Akcel GP nor KIC Motorsport will continue, and French outfit Saintéloc Racing will also depart after three seasons.

KIC, a founding team of FREC, leaves behind a record of four wins, five runner-up finishes, seven other podiums, and five poles between 2019 and 2024. Meanwhile, Akcel, which entered five rounds in 2025 despite not being pre-selected, leaves without scoring points. Saintéloc exits with one win, four additional podiums, and a pole position since 2023.

MP Motorsport returns as Rodin Motorsport joins

Returning to FREC in 2026 is MP Motorsport. The Dutch team previously competed between 2021 and 2024, at times also running the FA Racing squad. Under its own name, MP secured two wins, seven second places, three further podiums, and three poles before stepping away at the end of last year. Therefore, MP’s comeback signals both continuity and renewed ambition, as the team brings its proven success in junior single-seaters back to the FREC stage.

Adding further excitement, Rodin Motorsport will debut in FREC in 2026. It becomes only the second British team to race in the series, following Arden’s participation from 2021 to 2023. Although Rodin lacks prior Formula Regional experience, it arrives with an impressive résumé. The team has already claimed victories in Formula 2, FIA Formula 3, GB3, and multiple Formula 4 championships. Consequently, its arrival injects both fresh competition and additional prestige into the grid.

Speaking on their move into FREC, Rodin Motorsport’s sporting director Benn Huntingford said: “Entering the FIA Formula Regional European Championship is a natural step for Rodin Motorsport. FREC has become one of the most important proving grounds for young drivers and having a presence there means we can support our drivers at every stage of their development. We’re excited to take on this new challenge and to see the first group of Rodin drivers competing in the series from 2026.”

Technical and sporting evolution

The 2026 season will also mark the end of the long-serving Tatuus T-318 chassis and Alpine-badged engines. With the introduction of the T-326 car and Toyota power units, alongside the FIA’s enhanced oversight, the championship will raise its standards in performance, safety, and sustainability.

As a result, FREC will continue to strengthen its position as the benchmark for aspiring drivers. With clearer governance and a modernised technical package, it reinforces the FIA’s structured Single-Seater Pyramid, which guides drivers from FIA-certified Formula 4 to Formula Regional, then on to FIA Formula 3 and ultimately Formula 1.

Looking ahead to a new era

With ten top teams confirmed, a returning powerhouse in MP Motorsport, and the arrival of Rodin Motorsport, the 2026 FIA Formula Regional European Championship is poised for one of its most competitive seasons yet. At the same time, the departure of long-standing squads like KIC and Saintéloc closes one chapter and opens another.

Therefore, as anticipation builds, FREC stands ready to deliver a grid of exceptional quality, equipped with a new car and governed under full FIA authority. This evolution ensures the series will remain the definitive training ground for drivers aiming to reach the highest levels of global motorsport.
