The FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) has confirmed an expanded nine-round calendar for the 2027 season, with Silverstone’s return marking the headline addition to a schedule that retains all existing venues.

The championship will begin with the traditional Prologue test at Lusail International Circuit in March before the Qatar 1812km opens the competitive campaign later that same week. From there, FIA WEC will move into a packed European leg before the season’s showpiece, the 95th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The second half of the year will then feature four flyaway rounds across Brazil, the United States, Japan and Bahrain, where the 2027 champions will be crowned in early November.

FIA highlights championship’s continued growth with nine-round 2027 calendar

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the 2027 calendar reflects the championship’s current momentum, with growing manufacturer interest, stronger fan engagement and a stable global platform all contributing to FIA WEC’s expansion.

“The FIA World Endurance Championship continues to go from strength-to-strength. In recent years, we have welcomed new manufacturers to the grid, seen growing interest from fans around the world and maintained a stable, competitive calendar that showcases the very best of endurance racing.

“The return of the 6 Hours of Silverstone next season marks an important milestone for the championship. Silverstone is a venue with a rich endurance racing heritage, and its return reflects both the continued growth of the FIA World Endurance Championship and the increasing global appeal of our sport.”

The championship has enjoyed a major rise in profile in recent seasons. Record-breaking trackside attendances, 14 major automotive marques currently represented on the grid, and the upcoming arrivals of Ford and McLaren in Hypercar have all strengthened FIA WEC’s position as one of global motorsport’s most competitive series.

Qatar opens the 2027 FIA WEC campaign

FIA WEC will begin its 2027 activities with the Official Prologue at Lusail International Circuit from 21-22 March. The group test will give teams and drivers an important opportunity to prepare before the season starts in earnest.

The Qatar 1812km will then open the campaign from 25-27 March. The race will take competitors from daylight into darkness, immediately testing performance, reliability and adaptability at the beginning of the season.

As a result, teams will need to find rhythm quickly. With a longer calendar and a deeper field, early points could prove crucial in shaping the championship battle.

European run brings Silverstone back

After Qatar, FIA WEC will move into a rapid European sequence. The 6 Hours of Imola will take place from 9-11 April before Silverstone rejoins the calendar from 23-25 April.

The British round will represent one of the most significant changes on the 2027 schedule. FIA WEC last raced at Silverstone in 2019, so its return after an eight-year absence restores a traditional endurance venue to the championship.

FIA WEC CEO Frédéric Lequien said the timing felt right to expand the calendar and bring the British circuit back into the fold.

“Following several seasons of stability, the growing popularity of FIA WEC – amongst manufacturers, media and fans – convinced us that now is the right time to expand the schedule. In Silverstone, we will be returning to a circuit with a history of generating exciting racing and attracting huge crowds, offering competitors a tremendous challenge while perfectly complementing the eight existing venues. With nine unmissable races across five global regions, another sensational season looks assured!”

Just a fortnight after Silverstone, the championship will head to Belgium for the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps from 13-15 May. That event will act as the final competitive round before Le Mans.

Le Mans remains the centrepiece for 2027 FIA WEC calendar

The 95th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will take place from 9-13 June and will again serve as the centrepiece of the FIA WEC season.

As always, Le Mans will carry championship significance and historic weight. It will also arrive during a period of major growth for endurance racing, with increased manufacturer involvement and rising spectator interest adding further momentum to the event.

ACO President Pierre Fillon said the 24 Hours of Le Mans remains central to the championship’s identity.

“The FIA World Endurance Championship represents the pinnacle of international endurance racing, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans is its beating heart. It is a discipline that is continuously gaining in both popularity and prestige – as evidenced by the unprecedented on-site audience here this weekend, with ticket sales at an all-time high – and 2027 looks set to be FIA WEC’s biggest and best season yet. This is truly a wonderful era for our sport.”

The race will once again draw the world’s leading endurance teams, manufacturers and drivers to France. Moreover, it will form the emotional and competitive peak of a season that stretches across five global regions.

Flyaway rounds decide the title fight

After Le Mans, the championship will begin the second half of its campaign with the Rolex 6 Hours of São Paulo at Interlagos from 9-11 July.

Then, following a summer break, FIA WEC will travel to the United States for Lone Star Le Mans at the Circuit of the Americas from 10-12 September. Two weeks later, the series will head to Fuji Speedway in Japan from 24-26 September.

The season will conclude with the Bapco Energies 8 Hours of Bahrain from 4-6 November. As in recent years, Bahrain will host the title decider, giving teams one final endurance test before the 2027 champions are crowned.

This structure gives the calendar a clear balance. It combines a Middle Eastern opener, a compact European stretch, the Le Mans centrepiece and four overseas rounds across the Americas, Asia and the Middle East.

FIA Endurance Commission welcomes balanced expansion

FIA Endurance Commission President Richard Mille said the expanded calendar reflects the championship’s continued progress while still maintaining a measured approach.

“Over the last couple of years, the FIA World Endurance Championship has enjoyed a period of steady growth and expansion. That momentum is set to continue as the series returns to one of its traditional venues in a country with deep endurance racing roots. The expansion of the calendar, while maintaining a balanced and cost-conscious approach, is a welcome development, reflecting the championship’s ongoing growth and the continued success of the golden era of our sport, which we are fortunate to be living through.”

That approach allows FIA WEC to grow without abandoning the stability that has supported its recent success. Furthermore, the championship has recommitted to its existing venues while adding Silverstone, giving teams continuity alongside a high-profile new challenge.
