Formula E Gen4 calendar will feature a record-breaking number of races across 13 cities, making it the most extensive schedule in the championship’s history. The FIA has confirmed a 21-race schedule to usher in the highly anticipated Gen4 era.
Additionally, the announcement comes shortly after Formula E manufacturers unveiled several upcoming Gen4 challengers ahead of the new era. Formula E Gen4 calendar will feature 21 races across 13 cities, making it the most extensive schedule in championship’s history.
Among the most illustrious additions, there will be new events at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) in Austin and Zandvoort in the Netherlands. The London E-Prix will move to the iconic Brands Hatch circuit.
Formula E Gen4 calendar expands to 21 races
The season will begin with a night-race double-header in Jeddah on 18 and 19 December 2026. Mexico City, Austin, Miami and São Paulo, as part of the Americas leg, will follow.
Meanwhile, the championship will then travel to Sanya before an expanded European schedule featuring Berlin, Monaco, Brands Hatch, Zandvoort and Madrid.
Ultimately, the 2026-27 campaign will conclude with double-header events in Shanghai and Tokyo. The Japanese capital will be hosting the season finale on 24 and 25 July 2027.
Furthermore, Formula E designed this calendar with sustainability in mind, grouping events by continent to reduce freight mileage and lower carbon emissions.


E-PrixUnleashed joins Formula E Gen4 calendar
Meanwhile, Formula E also confirmed the introduction of E-PrixUnleashed, a new race format that will debut alongside the Gen4 era.
The new format is going to be used for double-header weekends and is intended to showcase unrestricted performance capabilities of the Gen4 car.
Traditional E-Prix format will continue to emphasise energy management and strategic racing. E-PrixUnleashed will focus on performance and speed.
New sporting format and points system explained
Finally, the start of the Gen4 era will also introduce updated sporting regulations and a revised weekend structure.
By contrast, traditional E-Prix format will last 45 minutes and will continue to focus on energy management and strategy, including the use of PIT BOOST. Meanwhile, the new E-PrixUnleashed format is going to be a 30-minute sprint race designed to showcase the full performance potential of the Gen4 cars without PIT BOOST.
Both race formats will utilise 450kW base power, with drivers able to access 600kW through ATTACK MODE. Standard event weekends will continue to feature Free Practice sessions, qualifying groups, qualifying duels and the race, with a designated Shakedown day preceding each event.
Furthermore, Formula E has confirmed updates to the championship points system. Race points are going to continue to be awarded to the top 10 finishers. Moreover, the additional points will then be available through qualifying performances, including progression from the group stage, duel victories and pole position.
Gen4 promises biggest performance leap yet
The upcoming Gen4 car represents the biggest technical leap in Formula E history.
600kW of power and active all-wheel drive throughout the race. Moreover, the new generation promises significantly faster lap times and improved performance.
Consequently, Formula E states Gen4 machine will continue the championship’s focus on sustainability through use of recyclable and reusable materials. It ensures the maintenance of road-relevant technology development for manufacturers.
Formula E Co-Founder and Chief Championship Officer Alberto Longo described the announcement as a major milestone for the championship.

Opel joins expanded Formula E grid
Finally, the start of the Gen4 era will see Opel join Formula E as a manufacturer entrant. The German marque will join an increasingly competitive field that includes Porsche, Jaguar, Nissan, Citroën, Mahindra and Lola Cars.
Ultimately, with a larger calendar, new venues, new race format and debut of Gen4 car, Formula E Gen4 calendar marks beginning of one of the most significant chapters in championship’s history.
The 2026-27 season will commence in December.
