Fred Green made a striking start to the 2026 GB4 Championship at Silverstone, immediately placing himself at the forefront of the field. Although he initially qualified second for both opening races, officials promoted him to pole position after Luke Hilton received disqualification for yellow flag infringements.

As a result, Green inherited pole for both contests, with the grid determined by each driver’s fastest and second-fastest qualifying laps. He capitalised on this opportunity decisively and ensured he started the season with maximum advantage.

Turning opportunity into dominance

Green did not waste his front-row starts. Instead, he converted both pole positions into commanding victories, demonstrating composure and racecraft beyond his experience level. Consequently, he surged into an early championship lead while also collecting £300 in prize money for his two poles.

Furthermore, his performances placed him firmly at the top of the George Russell Pole Position Cup standings. With two poles already secured, he set a strong foundation in the fight for the season-long award and its £1,000 prize.

The George Russell Pole Position Cup highlights Qualifying excellence throughout the GB4 season. Each pole position earns £150 and a trophy, rewarding consistency and outright pace.

In addition, the team of the most successful qualifier will claim the David Poole Warren Pole Position Cup, alongside a £1,000 prize. John Cavill continues to present these awards, maintaining his long-standing contribution to nurturing young motorsport talent within the series.

Fastest lap honours add to Silverstone success

Green’s dominance extended beyond race wins. He also secured the Sunoco Fastest Driver of the Weekend Award, further underlining his pace. His benchmark lap of 2m01.643 in race one remained unbeaten across the weekend, despite strong efforts from his rivals.

Although he also set the fastest lap in the shortened second race, other competitors showed flashes of speed in the remaining contest. Nevertheless, Green’s initial effort proved decisive, earning him the first Sunoco award of the season.

A driver to watch emerges

In addition to his pole positions and fastest lap accolade, Green claimed the Omologato One to Watch Award. This prize recognises the highest-scoring driver across the opening two races of each event weekend.

Green achieved a perfect tally of 70 points, thanks to his two victories, leaving no doubt about his early-season form. As a reward, he received a timepiece from Omologato, a brand renowned for its deep connections to motorsport heritage and design inspiration drawn from iconic racing history.

Momentum builds for the season ahead

Green’s clean sweep at Silverstone signals a powerful statement to his competitors. Not only has he demonstrated qualifying speed and race pace, but he has also shown the consistency required to sustain a title challenge.

As the GB4 season progresses, rivals will need to respond quickly. However, if Silverstone serves as any indication, Green has already established himself as the benchmark driver in the early stages of the championship.
