The GB4 Championship will race outside the United Kingdom for the first time in February 2027 after confirming a three-round Copa del Sol series across MotorLand Aragón, Circuito del Jarama and Circuito de Jerez.
GB4 will join its sister GB3 Championship at all three Spanish events, beginning at Aragón on 13-14 February before moving to Jarama one week later. Jerez will then host the final round on 27-28 February, completing a nine-race series across three consecutive weekends.
The new competition significantly expands GB4’s 2027 programme before the main seven-round championship begins at Snetterton in April. It also follows the creation of a separate 12-race GB3 Copa del Sol, giving drivers in both categories an intensive Spanish racing programme before their respective regular seasons.
2027 GB4 Copa del Sol provisional schedule
- 13-14 February: MotorLand Aragón — Races 1, 2 and 3
- 20-21 February: Circuito del Jarama — Races 4, 5 and 6
- 27-28 February: Circuito de Jerez — Races 7, 8 and 9
Provisional testing schedule
- 11-12 February: MotorLand Aragón
- 19 February: Circuito del Jarama
- 25-26 February: Circuito de Jerez
Three races at each Spanish round
Each Copa del Sol event will run across two days and feature two qualifying sessions and three races. Drivers will contest the first qualifying session and opening race on Saturday before returning for another qualifying session and two further races on Sunday.
The structure creates nine races across the three-week programme while giving drivers multiple opportunities to work on outright qualifying performance and racecraft. It differs from the accompanying GB3 Copa del Sol, where each Spanish weekend will feature four separate qualifying sessions and four races.
The schedule also provides substantial pre-event testing. Competitors will receive two days of running at both Aragón and Jerez, while a single test day will precede the Jarama weekend. Drivers who complete the full programme will therefore gain five days of testing in addition to six days of competitive event running.
Copa del Sol opens GB4 to younger and prospective drivers
The GB4 Copa del Sol will register as a Spanish National series and will accept drivers aged 15 and above. That makes the competition accessible to young racers looking to make their first move into cars, as well as more experienced drivers seeking additional mileage before the regular European junior single-seater season begins.
The timing creates a particularly useful opportunity for drivers targeting the main GB4 Championship. The Spanish series concludes at Jerez on 28 February, leaving more than a month before the 2027 GB4 campaign opens at Snetterton on 10-11 April.
GB4 has increasingly positioned itself as an accessible first step into single-seater racing, with its 2026 season featuring large grids and numerous drivers in their first year of car competition. The Copa del Sol extends that approach by offering drivers competitive mileage at three additional circuits before the domestic season begins.
Teams permitted to run four cars
GB4 will also increase the maximum number of cars available to each team for the Copa del Sol. Entrants can operate up to four cars during the Spanish series, one more than permitted during the main GB4 season.
The additional entry could give teams greater flexibility when assessing prospective drivers ahead of the regular championship. It also provides an opportunity to accommodate racers who may want to sample GB4 machinery during February without committing immediately to a full-season programme.
MSV, Pirelli and Sunoco Race Fuels will provide technical support throughout all three events, maintaining the infrastructure used within the regular GB4 Championship. Full sporting regulations and further event information will follow through a dedicated Copa del Sol entry portal and website.
Entry costs capped for all three events
The Copa del Sol will retain GB4’s focus on relatively affordable junior single-seater competition, with entry fees for each event capped at £3,250 plus VAT, including the associated pre-event testing.
Drivers contesting the entire series will therefore receive racing at three Spanish circuits alongside dedicated testing before each meeting. The concentrated February schedule also allows teams to remain in Spain between events rather than spreading the programme across a longer period.
For drivers preparing for a full GB4 campaign, that mileage provides a chance to build experience before championship points become available. Prospective newcomers can instead use the series as an introduction to the car and team environment before deciding on their next step.
GB4 follows GB3 into expanded Spanish programme
GB4’s addition means both of MSV’s principal junior single-seater championships will contest Copa del Sol programmes at the same three circuits in February. However, the categories will retain different sporting formats, with GB4 running nine races compared with GB3’s 12.
The Spanish series also represents a particularly significant step for GB4 because every championship race since its 2022 introduction has taken place in the United Kingdom. Aragón will therefore become the first overseas circuit to host a GB4 race when the Copa del Sol begins on 13 February.
The move complements a busy 2027 programme rather than replacing any part of the main championship. GB4 will still contest its established seven-round, 21-race domestic season from April to October before returning to Snetterton for the separate Autumn Trophy in November.
With three Spanish weekends now added before the championship opener, drivers could begin their year with nine competitive races and extensive testing before arriving at Snetterton. The Copa del Sol therefore gives GB4 its first international racing programme while creating another route for young drivers to gain meaningful single-seater experience ahead of the main 2027 season.
