Patricio Gonzalez ended the GB3 season opener at Silverstone on a positive note, reflecting on a weekend that showed clear progress for both himself and VRD Racing. Despite an earlier setback in the second race, he delivered a competitive performance overall and played a key role in the team’s improved pace. As a result, he left the weekend encouraged and confident about the season ahead.
Gonzalez on steady improvement across the 2026 GB3 opening weekend at Silverstone
While speaking to GB3 after Race 3, Gonzalez emphasised the step forward made throughout the event, highlighting consistent gains in speed and execution across the four-day programme. Moreover, he noted that the progress extended beyond individual performance to the entire team.
“Yeah, it was a really positive weekend. The whole four days, we made a lot of improvement. Not just myself, but the whole team gained a lot of speed through the weekend and it’s just good to see.”
Therefore, the weekend served as an important foundation for future rounds, particularly as VRD continues to refine its package.
Confidence heading into Spa
Following his encouraging performance at Silverstone, Gonzalez expressed strong confidence heading into the next round at Spa-Francorchamps. He believes the team’s progress will translate well to different circuits as the season develops.
“Yeah, I’m really confident getting out of Silverstone, going to Spa, so I can’t wait to start there.”
As a result, he approaches the next event with optimism and momentum behind him.
Belief in consistent race pace
Gonzalez also pointed to VRD Motorsport’s race pace as a key strength across the opening weekend. With all three cars showing competitiveness in race conditions, he believes the team can continue to challenge closely packed midfield and front-running rivals.
“Yeah, I think we can be very close to everyone, especially racing. We had a very good race pace, all three cars, so let’s see if we can hold it.”
Consequently, maintaining that consistency will be central to converting potential into stronger results.
Therefore, Gonzalez leaves Silverstone with renewed confidence and a clear sense of progress. While results fluctuated across the weekend, the underlying pace and development across VRD Racing stood out as a major positive. Ultimately, if the team sustains this trajectory, Gonzalez and his teammates could become regular contenders further up the order as the season continues.
