Fred Green will make his GB3 Championship debut with Elite Motorsport during the 2026 season finale at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on 5–8 November. The British driver steps up following a successful rookie campaign in GB4, where he finished runner-up in the Drivers’ Championship.
The 16-year-old will join Elite Motorsport’s regular GB3 drivers Flynn Jackes and Kyuho Lee for the three-race weekend in Spain. Green has already completed limited testing in the championship’s Tatuus MSV GB3-025 at Snetterton and Silverstone but will make his competitive debut at Barcelona.
His promotion continues a rapid progression through junior motorsport, having finished second in both Ginetta Juniors and GB4 across his first two full seasons of car racing. The BRDC Rising Star will now aim to gain further experience as he prepares for the next stage of his single-seater career.
Green earns 2026 GB3 opportunity with Elite Motorsport after six-win GB4 campaign
Green established himself among the leading contenders during his maiden GB4 season, securing six victories, six fastest laps and seven pole positions across the 21-race championship.
The Leicestershire driver demonstrated exceptional qualifying pace throughout the season, claiming the George Russell Pole Position Cup after recording more pole positions than any other competitor. He also secured four Omologato One to Watch Awards, recognising his performances across several race weekends.
His campaign began particularly strongly at Silverstone, where he won the opening two races before securing another victory at Oulton Park. Although several difficult weekends affected his championship challenge, Green returned to winning ways at Donington Park before completing the season with two further victories at Brands Hatch.
Despite his superior victory tally, Green ultimately finished 33 points behind KMR Sport’s Alex O’Grady, whose consistency secured the Drivers’ Championship. Nevertheless, Green’s performances helped Elite Motorsport claim its second consecutive GB4 Teams’ Championship.
The British driver also led almost twice as many laps as his nearest rival during the season, highlighting the outright pace that made him one of the championship’s leading competitors.
His promotion follows a successful introduction to single-seater racing with Elite Motorsport, which has now extended its partnership with Green into GB3.
Ginetta Junior success provides foundation for rapid progression
Green entered single-seater competition after an impressive 2025 Ginetta Junior Championship campaign, which marked his first full season of car racing.
The British driver secured nine victories and 18 podium finishes across 24 races, ultimately finishing runner-up in the Drivers’ Championship. His performances followed his success in earning the 2025 Ginetta Junior Scholarship and established him as one of the most promising drivers progressing through British junior motorsport.
Green also comes from a family with an extensive motorsport background. His uncle, Jamie Green, previously competed in the DTM, securing multiple victories during his career with Mercedes and Audi. Meanwhile, his father Nigel won the 2017 BriSCA Formula 1 Stock Car World and European Championships.
Having begun karting in 2020, Green has rapidly progressed through the junior categories. He is also part of the McLaren x Elite Talent Pathway, which supports promising drivers as they develop within Elite Motorsport’s racing programmes.
His achievements have earned him recognition as a BRDC Rising Star, while he continues his development through the Motorsport UK Academy in Loughborough.
Green welcomes 2026 GB3 challenge with Elite Motorsport after successful GB4 rookie season
Following the announcement, Green expressed enthusiasm about stepping into GB3 after enjoying a competitive debut campaign in GB4.
“Having had a successful maiden GB4 season with seven ‘poles’ and six wins, GB3 seems like a reasonable step to take and I’m excited to see how we get on!” Green said.
The British driver acknowledged that the transition would introduce new technical challenges, particularly because of the additional power and aerodynamic performance of the GB3 car.
“As a whole the differences between GB4 and GB3 aren’t huge, it’s a more advanced and technical car all round. Everything is happening faster due to more aero and power.”
Green also highlighted the importance of continuing his progression rather than remaining in a familiar category, recognising the benefits of gaining experience against more established competitors.
“I’m always looking to push myself and accelerate my learning so it’s important not to stand still. Ginetta Juniors gave me a fantastic foundation while GB4 was a brilliant step into single-seaters.”
Although Green has already demonstrated his pace in GB4, he acknowledged that competing against drivers with a full season of GB3 experience would present a considerable challenge during his debut weekend.
Elite Motorsport aims to maximise Green’s Barcelona experience
Green will enter the Barcelona finale without specific expectations regarding his finishing positions, instead focusing on gaining experience with the more demanding GB3 machinery.
The British driver has completed limited testing at Snetterton and Silverstone, providing an introduction to the championship’s current car. However, Barcelona will mark his first opportunity to compete directly against the established field.
“There are no set expectations for Barcelona in terms of results as such, it’s going to be tough with the rest of the competition having a year under their belts if not more,” Green explained.
Nevertheless, he expressed confidence in his abilities and Elite Motorsport’s support, adding that he hoped to challenge the more experienced drivers.
Team owner Eddie Ives welcomed Green’s promotion, highlighting the speed of his progression through the junior categories and his achievements across the past two seasons.
“Fred fully deserves this opportunity to make his GB3 Championship debut at Barcelona,” Ives said. “Considering his first full car racing season was only in 2025 and his maiden single-seater season only this year, his progress has been phenomenal.”
However, Ives stressed that the team would not place additional pressure on Green during his debut, given his limited preparation with the GB3 car.
“He’s done minimal testing in a GB3 car and so there’s no pressure from us whatsoever – just race and enjoy!”
Barcelona finale offers introduction to more powerful GB3 machinery
Green will make his debut in the Tatuus MSV GB3-025, which features a 2.4-litre, naturally aspirated four-cylinder Mountune engine producing approximately 280bhp.
The car represents a significant performance increase over GB4 machinery, combining greater power with a more advanced aerodynamic package. The current generation also features a Drag Reduction System (DRS), introducing another technical element for drivers to manage.
These differences will require Green to adapt his braking techniques, cornering speeds and overall driving approach while gaining experience against established competitors.
The Barcelona event will feature three races, giving him several opportunities to become familiar with the car in competitive conditions. He will join teammates Jackes and Lee, who have already completed the majority of the 2026 GB3 campaign with Elite Motorsport.
Both drivers bring valuable experience to the team, with Jackes having secured a victory at the Hungaroring earlier in the season.
The weekend also marks the final round of the 2026 GB3 Championship, providing an opportunity for Green to gain experience ahead of decisions surrounding his future racing programme.
Having finished runner-up in two consecutive championships, Green will now aim to build on his successful introduction to car racing as he takes another step up the single-seater ladder with Elite Motorsport.
