Practice 2 at the 2026 Portland GP ahead of round 13 of the IndyCar season has been completed, view the full session report here.
In Practice 1 on Friday afternoon, championship leader Alex Palou led the way from Kyle Kirkwood. While the Spaniard was rapid on the blacks, it looked like the Andretti had the speed on the red tyre that is key for qualifying later today. VeeKay, Power, Foster and Simpson completed the top 6, as the three Team Penske drivers filled 7th through to 9th. Indy 500 winner Felix Rosenqvist rounded out the top 10.
IndyCar Practice 2 goes green at 2026 Portland round
A 59.855 from Romain Grosjean saw the Frenchman be the first driver below the one-minute mark in the early stages of full field running.
Following a difficult run on the harder tyre on Friday, Kyle Kirkwood was much quicker on Saturday morning as a 58.933 put him fastest, a fraction ahead of Christian Lundgaard, with McLaren having a rough opening practice.
Scares for the two Andrettis and a wall strike for VeeKay
At turn 5, Will Power had a snap on entry and it put his left front tyre in the dirt. He then had a solid lock-up at turn 7 on his next attempt. His teammate Marcus Ericsson got wide himself as he got back on throttle out of t6.
Moments later, Rinus VeeKay joined the turn 1 club of hitting the barrier with his right front, damaging his tyre and the suspension.
At the 15-minute mark, a 58.860 from Louis Foster had the RLL driver in P1, followed by Kirkwood, Malukas, Lundgaard and Collet.
With everyone on used tyres of varying laps run on them, Nolan Siegel jumped into 2nd behind the Brit, with Ferrucci moving up to 4th. Championship leader Alex Palou waited a while, going 6th when he hit the track.
Back out on circuit inside the final 10 minutes, Rinus VeeKay went from last to P3 as the Dutchman continued to be very fast this weekend.
As some drivers fitted fresher tyres near the end of Practice 2 at the 2026 IndyCar Portland round, a 58.828 from Will Power meant the Australian ended up fastest in the full field segment. Lundgaard also improved late to go 2nd, followed by long-time leader Foster.
Siegel, VeeKay, Kirkwood, Ferrucci, O’Ward, Malukas and Palou completed the top 10. Only 0.7s covered the whole field at the end of the 40 minutes.
Practice 2, Group 1
On reds, Marcus Armstrong logged a 58.298 to put in the fastest time of the weekend so far. For those on blacks, Alex Palou was the quickest of them as he logged a 58.610, fractionally ahead of teammate Scott Dixon. Malukas was the only other driver in the 58s bracket.
Collet, Simpson, Rasmussen, Rahal, Lundgaard, Rossi, Hauger, Robb and Siegel was the remainder of the order.
Practice 2, Group 2
Like Ericsson in the full field segement, Will Power had understeer and got wide in turn 6, putting his right hand wheels in the grass.
Felix Rosenqvist ended up fastest in this part. Unlike his teammate, he stayed on blacks. A 58.669 was good enough to be a tenth ahead of fellow Swede Marcus Ericsson. Newgarden, Kirkwood, McLaughlin, VeeKay, Power and Foster also dipped into the 58s bracket.
O’Ward, Schumacher, Ferrucci and Grosjean completed the order.
Overall, Marcus Armstrong was fastest as he was the only driver to use reds. Palou and Dixon completed the top 3.
