Leipert Motorsport will expand its GT programme at Monza by making its GT Cup Europe debut with Axel Bengtsson and Barrett Wolfe in a Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2.
The German squad, led by Marcel Leipert, will add the GT Cup Europe entry to an already significant Monza weekend. The event will also mark Leipert Motorsport’s return to the International GT Open, where the team last competed in 2024.
Bengtsson and Wolfe bring contrasting backgrounds to the new programme. Bengtsson arrives with extensive experience in GT and touring car machinery, while Wolfe has recently transitioned from single-seater competition into Lamborghini racing.
Leipert expands Lamborghini programme into GT Cup Europe
Leipert Motorsport has established a long relationship with Lamborghini machinery across several GT categories, particularly through Lamborghini Super Trofeo competition.
The team will now take the Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 into GT Cup Europe for the first time at Monza, adding another championship to its 2026 programme.
The move comes during a busy period for Leipert. The squad has continued competing with multiple Lamborghini entries in Super Trofeo Europe and will also return to the GT Open grid at Monza with a Huracán GT3 EVO2.
That combination means the German operation will compete in both GT Open and GT Cup Europe during the same weekend.
Bengtsson brings GT and touring car experience
Bengtsson, 26, brings considerable experience outside traditional single-seater racing to the pairing.
The Swedish driver has competed in GT4 machinery and previously raced in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship, where he claimed the Junior title during his debut season in 2022. He later moved into ADAC GT4 Germany and has also made appearances in Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia and other GT competition.
Bengtsson has already developed familiarity with Leipert and the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 during the 2026 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season.
He currently shares the #44 Pro entry with Månz Thalin. The pair took a breakthrough victory at Spa-Francorchamps before returning to the podium at the Nürburgring, where Bengtsson ran fifth before the pit stop and Thalin completed the race in third.
That experience should give Bengtsson an established reference point as Leipert introduces the car into GT Cup Europe competition.
Wolfe continues transition from single-seaters
Wolfe, 23, approaches the Monza weekend from a different route.
The American spent recent seasons competing in junior single-seaters, including F4 U.S. and Formula Regional Americas. He finished fifth in the 2024 F4 U.S. standings before progressing into Formula Regional competition with Crosslink Motorsports.
However, Wolfe has increasingly moved towards GT racing during 2026.
He made his Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe debut with Leipert at the Nürburgring alongside João Paulo Diaz Balesteiro. The pairing finished eighth and seventh in the Pro class across the two races as both drivers gained experience in GT machinery.
Wolfe had already gained experience in Lamborghini competition outside Europe, while the Nürburgring weekend represented another step in his transition away from single-seaters.
The GT Cup Europe entry now provides him with another opportunity to develop that experience alongside Bengtsson.
Leipert also returns to GT Open at Monza
The GT Cup Europe debut will form only one part of Leipert Motorsport’s Monza programme.
The team will simultaneously return to the International GT Open with a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2. Leipert has made several appearances in the championship over the years, although its most recent participation came in 2024.
For its GT Open comeback, the team will field the #70 Lamborghini for Brendon Leitch and Nicolas Stati.
Leitch brings considerable GT experience and has previously competed in the championship, while Stati has continued building his GT career after previously racing in Australian and American F4. The pair also have existing experience together, having shared two Lamborghini Super Trofeo victories at Misano before competing at the 6 Hours of Abu Dhabi earlier in 2026.
Leipert will therefore operate two distinct Lamborghini programmes across the Monza weekend: Bengtsson and Wolfe in GT Cup Europe with the Super Trofeo EVO2, and Leitch and Stati in GT Open with the GT3 EVO2.
Monza provides next step in Leipert expansion
The dual programme underlines Leipert Motorsport’s continued expansion across Lamborghini-based GT competition.
For Bengtsson, Monza represents another opportunity to build on an already established GT résumé and his recent Super Trofeo success. Wolfe, meanwhile, continues a much newer transition from the junior single-seater ladder into GT racing.
Their pairing also combines two drivers at different stages of that process. Bengtsson brings experience from GT4, touring cars and Super Trofeo, while Wolfe continues adapting to heavier, closed-cockpit machinery after several seasons in F4 and Formula Regional.
Leipert’s GT Cup Europe debut therefore adds another dimension to a Monza weekend that will also bring the team back to GT Open competition after a two-year absence.
