TRIDENT Motorsport has signed Niccolò Maccagnani for the 2027 FIA F3 Championship, completing its driver line-up alongside previously announced signings Kean Nakamura-Berta and Sebastian Wheldon.
The 16-year-old Italian will make the step up to FIA F3 after progressing through the junior single-seater ranks, with his performances across Formula 4 and the UAE4 Series earning him an opportunity with the Italian outfit.
Maccagnani began his single-seater career in 2025, finishing second in the Formula Trophy as he established himself in junior formula racing.
He continued his development this year, competing in the UAE4 Series and finishing fourth in the championship with two victories and five podium finishes. Meanwhile, the Italian also secured two race wins in the 2026 Italian Formula 4 Championship.
Alongside his Formula 4 commitments, Maccagnani gained his first experience of FIA Formula 3 machinery by participating in the final round of the 2026 championship in Madrid.
As a member of the Scuderia Ferrari Driver Academy, Maccagnani will now take on a full-time FIA F3 campaign in 2027, marking a significant step in his development as he prepares to compete against an experienced international field.
A step up to FIA F3 with TRIDENT for Maccagnani
TRIDENT Team Manager Giacomo Ricci welcomed Maccagnani to the team, highlighting his potential while acknowledging the challenge that awaits him in FIA F3 in 2027.
“We are delighted to announce the arrival of Niccolò Maccagnani at TRIDENT Motorsport,” said Ricci. “Niccolò is a young driver who has already demonstrated his speed and potential, excelling in the junior formulae.
“The FIA Formula 3 Championship will represent a significant challenge, with cars and a competitiveness level that are higher than anything he has faced so far. We are ready to provide Niccolò with full support in this new phase of his career, working together to foster his growth and allow him to fully express his talents and perform a competitive season.”
With his signing, TRIDENT has now finalised its line-up for 2027. Maccagnani will join Nakamura-Berta and Wheldon as the team looks to remain competitive in the FIA Formula 3 Championship, while the Italian will aim to build on his junior-category results during his rookie campaign.
