LN4 Fusion has confirmed Brazilian-American driver Miguel Costa for the 2027 FIA Formula Regional European Championship (FREC), with the 17-year-old set to contest his second season in the category. The announcement marks another important step in the development of the Lando Norris-backed organisation as it prepares for its inaugural campaign in the championship.
Costa joins the newly established outfit following a rookie FREC season with RPM in 2026, having previously competed in Spanish F4 and the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy. His experience will provide a foundation for his second European campaign as LN4 Fusion prepares to join an expanded 36-car grid next year.
The move also represents an opportunity for Costa to continue developing within a new team structure, with LN4 Fusion aiming to establish itself across several levels of the junior single-seater ladder.
Costa progresses from karting to single-seater competition
Costa began his motorsport career in the United States before moving to Europe to compete in international karting. Born in Miami, the Brazilian-American driver developed his skills across several leading championships, gaining experience against some of the most competitive young drivers on the international scene.
His karting achievements included the 2019 Italian Championship in the 60 Mini category, while he subsequently competed with the Sauber Karting Team. Those programmes allowed him to develop his racecraft before progressing into single-seater racing in 2025.
Costa made his car racing debut with Campos Racing, competing in the Eurocup-4 Spanish Winter Championship and the Spanish F4 Championship. He demonstrated promising pace during his first season, securing multiple rookie podium finishes and an outright second-place result.
His performances at Navarra were particularly encouraging, with Costa claiming a rookie victory alongside an overall runner-up finish. He also recorded further rookie podiums during the main Spanish F4 campaign, demonstrating his ability to adapt to different circuits and conditions.
Having completed his first year in single-seaters, Costa joined RPM for the 2026 Formula Regional European and Middle East campaigns, taking the next step in his development.
Costa makes promising start to Formula Regional career
Costa began 2026 competing in the Formula Regional Middle East Trophy with RPM, gaining his first experience of the category before the European championship.
His debut weekend at Yas Marina proved particularly encouraging, with the Brazilian-American driver securing second place overall in one race and claiming the rookie victory. The result provided an early indication of his potential as he adapted to the increased performance and technical demands of Formula Regional machinery.
Costa subsequently completed the Middle East campaign 15th in the Drivers’ Championship before turning his attention towards his first full FREC season.
Remaining with RPM, he joined Giovanni Maschio and Jan Przyrowski in the team’s European line-up. The 2026 campaign introduced the new-generation Tatuus T-326 chassis, requiring both experienced and rookie drivers to adapt to revised machinery and tyres.
Although Costa encountered challenges throughout the championship, he demonstrated encouraging race pace and an ability to recover positions. His performances included a drive from 27th to seventh at Monza and a sixth-place finish during the season finale at Hockenheim.
The latter result helped him finish 23rd in the final FREC Drivers’ Championship with 12 points, providing a foundation for his second season in 2027.
Costa gains further experience during F3 post-season testing
Following the conclusion of his rookie Formula Regional campaign, Costa also participated in FIA Formula 3 (F3) post-season testing, gaining experience in another category of the junior single-seater ladder.
The Brazilian-American joined DAMS Lucas Oil for the official tests at Circuito de Jerez and the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya in October, where teams evaluated drivers and continued preparations for the upcoming championship.
His participation provided an opportunity to experience F3 machinery while working within a different technical environment. Although Costa will remain in FREC for 2027, the additional running offered valuable experience as he continued assessing his development following his first Formula Regional season.
Costa was among several emerging drivers participating in the Barcelona post-season test, which also featured a number of competitors preparing to graduate from Formula Regional into F3.
However, Costa’s immediate focus will remain on building experience within FREC, where a second consecutive season should allow him to apply the lessons learned during his rookie campaign.
Costa welcomes opportunity with LN4 Fusion
Costa’s move to LN4 Fusion will see him join a newly established organisation preparing to make its FREC debut in 2027. Although the team has yet to compete in the championship, its combination of experienced motorsport personnel and long-term development ambitions provides an opportunity for drivers progressing through the junior ranks.
The Brazilian-American expressed his appreciation for the opportunity, highlighting the professionalism and ambition he encountered during his initial discussions with the team.
“Joining LN4 Fusion means a lot to me. I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity and the trust the team has put in me. From the first time I met them, I could feel how professional and motivated everyone is. I’m really looking forward to working with them and seeing what we can achieve together.”
Costa will now prepare for his second FREC campaign with a new team, having already gained experience of the championship’s circuits, race weekend format and technical demands.
His familiarity with the Tatuus T-326 should also provide continuity as LN4 Fusion develops its operations ahead of its first competitive appearance.
Richards welcomes Costa to LN4 Fusion
LN4 Fusion Chief Executive Officer Dan Richards welcomed Costa to the organisation, highlighting the potential he demonstrated during his early single-seater career and the importance of supporting his continued progression.
“We are pleased to have Miguel with us for the season. He has shown real promise and is joining us at an important stage of his career. The Formula Regional European Championship is a competitive series, and we want to give him the support he needs to continue his development. We look forward to the season ahead.”
Costa’s signing forms part of LN4 Fusion’s preparations for its first season in FREC, with the organisation seeking to establish a competitive programme alongside its other junior single-seater operations.
The team, co-founded by reigning F1 World Champion Lando Norris, officially announced its formation in September 2026. Its sporting structure is led by former PREMA Racing Team Principal René Rosin, while Guillaume Capietto serves as Racing Director.
Both bring considerable experience from successful international junior racing programmes, providing the new organisation with an established technical and sporting leadership structure.
Costa will therefore join an operation combining experienced personnel with the ambition of developing drivers across several stages of their careers.
LN4 Fusion prepares for expanded 2027 FREC championship
LN4 Fusion will enter FREC as one of two new teams joining the championship in 2027, alongside Invicta Racing. Their arrival will expand the grid from ten to twelve teams, with each organisation fielding three cars for a total of 36 entries.
The FIA and Automobile Club d’Italia confirmed the selected teams in October, retaining all ten competitors from the 2026 season while introducing the two new organisations.
The expanded championship will also feature a ten-round calendar, beginning at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão, Portugal, on 9–11 April 2027. The season will again utilise the second-generation Tatuus T-326, which debuted in 2026.
LN4 Fusion’s participation represents part of a wider expansion across junior motorsport. The organisation has already confirmed its inaugural F3 line-up of James Egozi, Gabriel Gomez and Dion Gowda, having acquired AIX Racing’s championship entry.
Furthermore, LN4 Fusion recently secured a place on the F2 grid for the 2027–2029 championship cycle, strengthening its ambition to create a development pathway across multiple single-seater categories.
Costa’s arrival therefore adds another driver to the organisation’s growing programme as it prepares for its first season of competition.
Costa targets progress during second FREC campaign
Costa’s decision to remain in FREC for a second season will provide an opportunity to build on the experience gained throughout 2026, particularly as he becomes more familiar with the championship’s machinery and competitive environment.
His rookie campaign featured encouraging performances despite several difficult weekends, with his recovery drives and season-best sixth-place finish at Hockenheim demonstrating his potential to challenge further up the order.
Meanwhile, LN4 Fusion will face its own learning curve as it prepares to compete against established teams including R-ace GP, PREMA Racing, ART Grand Prix and MP Motorsport.
With Costa now confirmed, the organisation can continue developing its driver line-up and technical preparations ahead of the 2027 season opener.
For both driver and team, the upcoming championship represents an opportunity to establish a stronger competitive foundation, with Costa aiming to translate his experience into more consistent results as LN4 Fusion begins its FREC journey.
