Gabriele Minì is on of the leading figures of Italy’s strong period of motorsport success across several major international championships. The Italian arrived at the Spielberg round at the top of the Formula 2 standings, while Kimi Antonelli and Marco Bezzecchi also led their respective championships in Formula 1 and MotoGP at that time.
Leonardo Fornaroli’s Formula 2 title success in 2025 further underlined Italy’s recent strength in motorsport. Speaking during the F2 virtual roundtable ahead of the 2026 Austrian GP, Minì reflected on the country’s current generation of leading drivers and the possibility of further Italian success in the future.
Minì celebrates Italy’s success across motorsport
Minì believes Italy’s performances across Formula 1, Formula 2 and MotoGP demonstrate the strength of the country’s current motorsport talent. The MP Motorsport driver highlighted Antonelli’s Formula 1 campaign, Fornaroli’s previous F2 title and Bezzecchi’s position at the top of the MotoGP standings alongside his own championship lead.
“Yeah, for the moment, Italy is having a good say. It’s a good moment for Italy in motorsport in general. We are seeing Kimi [Antonelli] leading the Formula 1, doing an amazing job. Fornaroli last year, won in F2 and at the moment, as you mentioned, I’m leading Formula 2. So, it’s a good moment. Also, MotoGP Bezzecchi is leading the championship.“
The success of several Italian competitors has placed the country in a prominent position across both four-wheel and two-wheel racing. However, Minì recognised that strong championship positions do not guarantee future success.
Italian drivers determined to maintain momentum
Although Minì welcomed Italy’s current form, he remained cautious when discussing whether the country could continue producing leading drivers in the coming years.
Instead, the F2 championship leader focused on the challenges that each Italian driver still faced. Minì and Antonelli aimed to convert their championship leads into titles, while Bezzecchi continued his MotoGP campaign and Fornaroli worked towards securing a Formula 1 opportunity.
“So, it’s a very, very good moment for sure. It’s hard to predict what will happen in the future. At the moment, we know that the current situation is good and I’m sure that everyone wants to keep it that way. So, I’m sure Kimi [Antonelli] will do his best to win. I will do the same for sure and Marco [Bezzecchi] will do the same and Leo [Fornaroli] will do the same to get a seat in F1. So, it’s very hard to predict the future but, as you mentioned, the moment is very, very good.“
While Minì could not predict whether Italy would maintain its current level of success, he remained confident that each driver would do everything possible to capitalise on their respective opportunities.
For Minì, the immediate focus remained on the Formula 2 championship and the upcoming Spielberg round, where he would attempt to strengthen his position at the top of the standings.
