Amidst new regulations and the start of a new team, Cadillac finally made progress at the 2026 F1 British GP, and while still having no points on the board, Sergio Pérez talks of improvements after summer break and expectations for Hungary.

Pérez holding back Haas at the 2026 British GP

Sergio Pérez managed to keep a good pace at the start of the 2026 British GP, fighting quite a few cars before the Virtual Safety Car was invoked.

Speaking in the print media pen, the Cadillac driver agreed that this was a good race for the team. Cadillac suffered a double DNF during their previous race in Austria and Pérez remarked that they’ve since made good progress.

“Yeah, it was quite good that pace. We were in the mix, we had a really good start and we were fighting a few very fast cars. We were able to hold basically the Haas behind and then the Virtual [Safety Car] came out for a short period.

“We boxed and the Haas, we did struggle quite a bit with it. I think we had a pretty good idea of what went wrong, but it seemed like it was a pretty strong race from the team. A good progress in that regard.”

Possible improvements after summer break

The Mexican wasn’t confident that the F1 British GP is the start of progress. He said there’s not much in the pipeline of improvements.

Thinking of gains after the summer break, Pérez isn’t able to find much hope. However, he is sure that the team is pushing hard to close their gap.

“I think, I mean there is not much in the pipeline in terms of upgrades and stuff that gives us a bit of hope. But I am sure the team is pushing really hard to close the gap.”

Expectations for Hungary after the 2026 British GP

Sergio Pérez explained that Cadillac wasn’t expecting to have brake issues in Austria.

He thinks Hungary will be a good test on their progress seen at the 2026 British GP as it is expected to be very hot at the Hungaroring in two weeks.

“Well, it’s a very different race, you know, to Austria, so we were not expecting to have those issues, so it’s something that we need to work on. I think Hungary will be a good test in that regard, so we just have to keep pushing.”
