Théo Pourchaire will join the Formula E grid next season after Opel GSE Formula E Team confirmed the Frenchman for the start of the GEN4 era.
The 22-year-old arrives in the championship with a strong single-seater background. Pourchaire won the FIA Formula 2 title in 2023 before broadening his experience across IndyCar, the European Le Mans Series and the FIA World Endurance Championship. He has also held a driver development role in Formula 1.
Formula E will represent a new chapter in his career, but Pourchaire has already sampled the championship’s machinery in rookie outings. He took part in this year’s Miami Rookie Free Practice session and the Madrid Rookie Test, showing early promise in all-electric cars. His Miami performance stood out in particular, as he finished second and ended the session just 0.093s away from the fastest time.
Opel prepares for Formula E entry
Pourchaire will make his debut with Opel GSE Formula E Team, the newest outfit to join the championship.
The German manufacturer brings a long motorsport history into Formula E, having competed across disciplines such as rallying, touring cars and endurance racing. Its arrival comes at a significant moment for the series, as Formula E prepares to introduce the GEN4 car for the 2026/27 season.
For Opel, entering Formula E at the start of a new technical cycle offers a chance to establish itself as the championship begins its next major evolution. For Pourchaire, it gives him a fresh single-seater opportunity after gaining experience across several categories since his F2 title.
GEN4 offers major performance step
Pourchaire’s debut season will coincide with the launch of Formula E’s GEN4 car, which promises a major performance increase over the current GEN3 Evo.
The new car is expected to reach speeds of more than 335kph and accelerate from 0-100kph in approximately 1.8 seconds. It is also expected to reach 0-200kph in 4.4 seconds, making it 1.5 seconds quicker than its predecessor in that measure.
In race mode, GEN4 will deliver 50% more power than the current GEN3 Evo car. In qualifying mode, it is expected to be around 10 seconds faster per lap on average than GEN3. ATTACK MODE will raise output to as much as 600kW, representing a 71% increase over the GEN3 Evo’s base output.
The GEN4 car will also introduce permanent all-wheel drive, making it the only single-seater race car with that feature.

Pourchaire said joining Opel GSE Formula E Team marked an important move as he prepares for his first full Formula E campaign.

Pourchaire’s move gives Formula E another young title-winning talent as the championship enters a new technical era. Opel, meanwhile, will begin its Formula E project with a driver who already has single-seater pedigree, prototype experience and early familiarity with electric racing machinery.
