R Racing will expand into single-seater competition for the first time in 2026, entering two cars in the GB4 Championship. This decision marks a significant new chapter for the Norfolk-based squad, which has built a formidable reputation in junior sports car racing.
Having dominated the Ginetta Junior scene for years, the team now aims to transfer that success into a new and highly competitive category.
A dynasty in Ginetta Juniors
Since its founding by Jamie Ross and Nathan Read, R Racing has established itself as the benchmark team in the Ginetta Junior Championship. In fact, the outfit has secured the drivers’ title for five consecutive seasons from 2019 onwards.
During that period, a string of standout drivers has delivered championship glory, including Aston Millar, Josh Rowledge, Freddie Slater, Ethan Jeff-Hall and Rocco Coronel. Each title has reinforced the team’s reputation for developing young talent and delivering consistent results.
Moreover, R Racing’s dominance extends beyond championships alone. The team has amassed an impressive 90 race wins in just seven seasons in the main series. Alongside this, it has enjoyed further success in the Winter Series, collecting more than a dozen titles overall.
A proven talent factory
Notably, several drivers who began their careers with R Racing have progressed to higher levels of the sport. Among them are GB3 champions Zak O’Sullivan and Callum Voisin, both of whom raced for the team early in their development.
Meanwhile, Freddie Slater’s 2023 campaign stands out as one of the most dominant in recent history, as he rewrote the record books with a remarkable season.
In addition to its junior achievements, R Racing has already demonstrated its versatility. The team expanded into the British GT Championship’s GT4 division in 2022, where it finished third overall with an Aston Martin Vantage.
This result underlined the squad’s ability to adapt and compete across different racing disciplines, further strengthening its credentials ahead of its single-seater debut.
Preparing for the GB4 challenge
Now, R Racing has set its sights firmly on GB4. The team has already acquired two Tatuus MSV GB4-025 cars, signalling its commitment to making an immediate impact.
This move represents not only a technical step forward but also a strategic one, as the team looks to broaden its presence within the motorsport ladder.
Team director Jamie Ross emphasised the importance of this milestone and the ambition behind the expansion.
“Receiving the GB4 cars is a major milestone for R Racing and a significant step forward for the team. It’s the result of years of preparation and commitment behind the scenes, and it underlines our ambition to compete at a high level. We’re excited to begin this next chapter and get the cars on track.”
As R Racing prepares for its GB4 debut, expectations will naturally be high. Nevertheless, the team’s track record suggests it has both the structure and expertise to succeed. With a proven history of winning and developing talent, R Racing now embarks on a new journey. If its past achievements are any indication, the team could quickly become a force to reckon with in single-seater racing.
