Race 1 of the 2026 FREC Spa-Francorchamps round has been rescheduled to 14:16 CEST, with Race 2 now cancelled.

Race 1 was rescheduled due to extremely challenging conditions at the original time Saturday morning. Heavy overnight rain, combined with persistent rainfall throughout the morning, left large areas of standing water across the circuit.

With visibility severely compromised by spray and lightning striking in the vicinity of the circuit the formation lap started behind the Safety Car. Drivers spent the opening laps simply trying to keep their cars on the circuit as they navigated the treacherous conditions.

The field completed a second lap behind the Safety Car, with the challenge made even greater by the fact that 20 drivers in the field had never previously raced at Spa-Francorchamps.

However, conditions failed to improve and, following the second lap behind the Safety Car, Race Control red-flagged the race and suspended proceedings. The drivers returned to the pit lane while officials continued to monitor the weather and assess whether the circuit could be made safe for racing.

Race 1 rescheduled

Ultimately, Race Control suspended the 2026 FREC Spa-Francorchamps Race 1 in the morning time slot, with standing water and poor visibility leaving the track un-raceable. It was announced that it would then replace Race 2 later in the day, subsequently cancelling the second race.

Alexandre Munoz, who had secured pole position and was set to lead the field away Saturday morning, will have a chance to do that later Saturday. Alongside him on the front row is Rashid Al Dhaheri, with both drivers now potentially having the opportunity to fight for victory and score valuable championship points, dependant on the rain forecast during the rescheduled race.

Championship leader Sebastian Wheldon has qualified fourth and will start from the second row alongside Kean Nakamura-Berta, who has lined up third on the grid.
