Carlos Sainz has faced a tough streak in recent race weekends, mirroring the struggles of the Williams team as a whole. The last time both Sainz and Albon finished inside the top 10 was back in Round 8 at Monaco. Since then, Sainz has only managed to collect a single point with a P10 finish in Canada. Meanwhile, Albon has failed to finish the last three races due to an ongoing car cooling issue on race Days. Both Sainz and Albon will be eager to score valuable points in this weekends F1 British GP.
Speaking in a print media session on Thursday ahead of the F1 British GP, Sainz admitted there is growing concern with the team’s ongoing reliability issues. The team has identified why the Spaniard had issues with his brakes on the formation lap of the 2025 F1 Austrian GP and confident it won’t occur again. However, their questions are still unanswered in regards to Albon’s reoccurring issues on race Day.
“Obviously there is a certain level of concern within the team of having so many reliability issues three in a row with Alex, and the brake issue with me. The brake was a lot of things coming together that we understand now why it happened and it shouldn’t happen again.
“The issue on Alex’s car that has happened a few in a row now is something that obviously we are trying to solve and trying to understand and for that we are doing everything we can to understand it this weekend, because it is a very strange issue that only happens on race day.
“We only see it happening on race day so you cannot simulate it at certain points of the weekend, even though we try our best but we will keep working on it.”
The clock is ticking to start executing before the F1 British GP at Silverstone
Sainz emphasised that everyone from back at the factory to the drivers and engineers were all trying to understand the issues and how to prevent them from happening again in the future.
“Very hectic for sure for the whole factory, for us as drivers and all the engineers involved. We are trying our best to get on top of all these issues and situations.”
Sainz had a poor qualifying, due to floor damage and brake problems in Q1, seeing him P19 on the start grid for Sundays race. Despite this, the four-time race winner was confident that Williams would have won the midfield battle in Austria, if he hadn’t had the brake issue prior to the race. This was evident by Albon’s pace, as he was running in a net P6 prior to being instructed to retire his car due to the ongoing issues.
“One thing that is keeping us calm and encouraged is that the speed of the car is there. I’m very confident we could have won the midfield battle in Austria, even starting from the back with the pace we had.
“Every race we are actually very quick and we have a very competitive car but we just need to start putting things together and making mistakes as a team which I think it will come.”
Sainz currently occupies P14 in the 2025 F1 Drivers’ Championship. With hopes high heading to Silverstone, he is optimistic to add to his tally in the F1 British GP this weekend.
