Broc Feeney was back on the top step after securing victory in Race 24 of the 2026 Supercars Championship in Perth
After losing the Championship lead, it was Feeney who secured his fifth victory of the season after a commanding drive. The Red Bull Ampol driver looked to close the gap to Championship leader Matt Payne, who ended Race 24 in second. Kai Allen slotted into third securing another double podium for Penrite Racing in 2026.
Payne Secures Double Pole
After securing pole position in Race 23, Matt Payne went back to back securing the first spot on grid in Race 24’s Qualifying. After topping the earlier session, the Penrite Racing driver again proved untouchable despite another hectic qualifying run affected by traffic and multiple impeding investigations. Broc Feeney will line up alongside Payne on the front row. While Kai Allen secured third to line up behind his teammate.
Four drivers were handed three-place grid penalties for impeding during qualifying, reshuffling the starting order and setting the stage for another action-packed 50-lap sprint at Wanneroo Raceway.
Early Chase in Perth
It was lights out at the Wanneroo Raceway and it was Matthew Payne who charged to the lead, flying past Broc Feeney. Kai Allen was able to hold onto third, while Andre Heimgartner charged past an uncontrol Thomas Randle, jumping from sixth to fourth. Chaz Mostert secures fifth, while Rylan Gray lost out on the opening lap, dropping four places to 13th.
After the opening few laps, the field was still relatively bunched together compared to Race 23, with less than four seconds separating the top five. With the race for the Sprint Cup and the Championship lead on the line, Payne began to pull away from Feeney. The Kiwi driver, who has been on a dominant streak these last few rounds, pulled a second and a half on his Championship rival.
At the back of the pack the fight was on, as Cooper Murray, Zach Bates and Aaron Cameron traded nudges and places along the main straight. While Will Brown was up four positions into eighth, it was Race 23’s front runners Cam Waters and Ryan Wood who battled for ninth. However, their battles brought both Anton De Pasquale and James Golding into the mix as Lap 15 ticked by.
Mostert Pits Early
On Lap 17, it was Chaz Mostert who pulled in to the pit lane with the hopes of completing another undercut. With Walkinshaw running early pits, it was Mostert who was running in clean air. One lap later, De Pasquale was next into the lane, with the team 18 Chevrolet coming out seven seconds behind the Supra. Wood was the next into the pits, coming out meters ahead of De Pasquale.
With the rest of the field slowing starting to pit, it was Allen and Randle who both pitted on Lap 22. The Penrite driver, who was running in third, was attempting to undercut Feeney, who pitted one lap later. However, it was Feeney who secured net second. Elsewhere on track, Kostecki received a black and white flag for track limits. The Perth local will be looking to recover after ending Race 23 in the sand.
After pitting on Lap 25, Payne exited the pit lane amongst the back markers. With Feenye able to quickly close in on Payne, passing the back markers proved crucial. At the start of Lap 28, it was Feeney who dived down the inside of Payne, claiming the net race lead. Behind, an amazing pitstop from Triple Eight Racing brought Brown out ahead of Wood, Heimgartner and Kostecki.
With 20 laps to go, the field started to settle as Feeney managed his pace with Payne. Up seven positions, Brown started to feel pressure from Kostecki, who closed the gap to six tenths. In third, Allen picked up a black and white flag for track limits and Payne started to feel the effects of running closely behind Feeney.
Battles until the Flag
With five laps to go, the battle for fifth was on was Kostecki closed another three tenths on Brown. Over the main straight, The two former Champions came within inches of each other, as Brown hung on fifth. As the laps ticked on, it was Feeney who began to pull away, securing a crucial victory as he looks to reclaim the Championship lead. With the checkered flag flying, Feeney claimed victory in Race 24.
Behind, it was a double Penrite podium as Payne secured his second podium of the day. Allen slotted into third, in a crucial result for his fight to stay in Championship contention. Off the podium, Mostert hung on to fourth ahead of Brown and Kostecki in fifth and sixth. Heimgartner and Wood helped secure three Supras in the top ten, while Monster Castrol Racing rounded out the top ten, as Cam Waters held off Randle.
The 2026 Supercars Championship returns tomorrow for Race 25. Qualifying will occur at 11:00am ahead of the Top Ten Shootout at 11:45am, before the final race in Perth at 3:20pm.
