As reported by Sportscar365, Valerio Rinicella will make his debut at the iconic 24 Hours of Le Mans this year, marking one of the most important milestones of his young career so far. The Italian will compete in an Oreca 07 Gibson entered by IDEC Sport, where he joins experienced team regulars Paul Lafargue and Job van Uitert in a highly competitive LMP2 entry.
Rinicella arrives at Le Mans with growing momentum and confidence. After winning the Asian Le Mans Series in 2024, he has fully transitioned from single-seater competition into the world of prototype endurance racing.
This season, he continues his development in the European Le Mans Series with IDEC Sport as part of a Genesis-backed programme. He has already shown strong adaptation, finishing fourth in the opening round in Barcelona alongside Jamie Chadwick and Laurents Hoerr in the sister entry.
Learning curve meets high expectations
Despite his rapid rise, Rinicella approaches Le Mans with a clear understanding of the challenge ahead. The race demands not only raw pace but also discipline, consistency, and experience across long, demanding stints.
Rinicella described competing at Le Mans as “a childhood dream coming true” and added: “For a first-time entry, there’s obviously a lot of excitement, but also a bit of pressure. It’s a race with very experienced drivers, so I still have a lot to learn, especially on the long stints.
To prepare as effectively as possible, he plans to fully utilise the expertise around him and absorb knowledge from multiple sources.
“For now, I’m focused on the ELMS season but, as soon as possible, I’ll be talking to my teammates who have a lot of experience. I want to learn as much as possible, whether on the track, in the simulator, or through physical training. A real challenge awaits me.”
Experienced line-up offers stability
Crucially, Rinicella joins a highly experienced pairing in Lafargue and van Uitert, both of whom bring proven Le Mans pedigree. The duo previously secured a podium finish together at the event in 2024, giving the crew a strong baseline of experience and pace. Nicolas Minassian praised Rinicella’s rapid development and professional approach.
“Valerio has impressed us with his maturity, speed, and dedication. He understands how the team operates, which is a real advantage when preparing for a race like Le Mans.
With that foundation in place, Minassian expressed confidence in the overall strength of the line-up.
“With Paul and Job, we have a cohesive crew capable of aiming for a top-level performance.”
Ultimately, Rinicella’s Le Mans debut represents a major step in his transition into top-level endurance racing. While the challenge will test him across every possible dimension — from traffic management to night stints and changing conditions — he enters the event with strong team support and proven co-drivers.
If he can adapt quickly and maintain consistency, this first appearance at Le Mans could mark the beginning of a significant long-term trajectory in prototype racing.
