Rowan Campbell-Pilling delivered a consistent opening weekend in the GB3 Championship at Silverstone, securing three top-ten finishes and showing strong race pace throughout. As a newcomer to the series, he quickly established himself as a steady performer across Qualifying and race conditions. As a result, he left the season opener with clear positives and defined areas for improvement.

Speaking to GB3 after Race 3, Campbell-Pilling highlighted the strength of his Qualifying performances and overall consistency, which provided a strong platform for the races. Despite minor setbacks, he remained competitive throughout and consistently placed himself inside the top ten.

“Yes, 100%. The start is moving to go on. We’re P6, P7 and P6 again in Quali. No, really good start. Didn’t have… speaking of starts, we need to sort those out. We need to work on them behind the scenes a bit because it’s a process issue for sure, so we need to fix that. Once we’re there, the race pace is there, everything else is there. We had two top-fives and a P9, so we’ll take it all weekend long and we’ll see where we go at Spa.”

Therefore, while results remained encouraging, he identified race starts as a key factor limiting stronger finishes.

Identifying the key improvement area

Although his overall pace proved competitive, Campbell-Pilling acknowledged that early-race execution prevented him from converting stronger qualifying positions into potential podium contention. Specifically, he pointed to the importance of improving starts to avoid losing ground in the opening laps.

Consequently, he believes that resolving this issue will immediately enhance his ability to challenge at the front of the field.

Confidence in race pace

Despite the early-race challenges, Campbell-Pilling remained confident in his long-run performance and consistency. He emphasised that his underlying pace already places him within reach of the leading group.

“I think the race pace is really strong, so the consistency is there, the speed is there over a race distance, so I feel like it is just a case of executing the start of the race really well and instead of having to make up that ground on the first couple of laps that we’ve lost from a poor start, we can then have a go at the top three, four.”

As a result, he sees clear potential to move from top-ten finishes into podium contention with improved execution.

Campbell-Pilling now turns his attention to Spa-Francorchamps, where he aims to build on his strong debut showing. With experience from Silverstone under his belt, he expects to continue refining his performance and closing the gap to the front-runners. Furthermore, his focus remains firmly on progression rather than immediate results, as he continues adapting to GB3 machinery and race conditions.
