Volante Rosso has confirmed a late alteration to its 2026 GTWC Australia driver line-up ahead of this weekend’s LIQUI MOLY GT Festival at The Bend. Ben Porter will step in to replace Lee Stibbs in the team’s Aston Martin Vantage GT3 EVO, bringing significant experience to the squad at a crucial stage of the season.
This unexpected switch reshapes the team dynamic just days before Round 2 of the GTWC Australia powered by AWS. As a result, Porter will partner Alex Gardner, marking their first collaboration since 2024.
Porter and Gardner reunite ahead of 2026 GTWC Australia Round 2 at The Bend
The reunion between Porter and Gardner offers a familiar and promising combination for Volante Rosso. The duo previously shared driving duties when the team reintroduced the Aston Martin to the series in 2024, and they now aim to build on that foundation.
Reflecting on his return, Porter expressed enthusiasm about rejoining the team and competing at a circuit he knows well.
“I’m really looking forward to coming back to rejoin Volante Rosso in the Aston Martin at The Bend,” Porter said. “It was great to be part of the team’s very first event with the Aston back in 2024, and since then, they have brought that package a long way.”
Porter highlighted the team’s development since his previous stint, emphasising both the car’s performance and the crew’s growing expertise. Consequently, expectations are high heading into the weekend.
“The car is sorted, the team knows it really well, and there’s no reason why we can’t be in a position to fight for a good result.”
Furthermore, Porter believes the combination of track knowledge and driver skill will play a decisive role.
“The Bend is a track that I know really well, and we all know that Alex is a talented driver, so for me, we have all the ingredients to get some good results together.”
Strong form ahead of return
In addition to his past achievements, Porter arrives in strong form. He recently competed in GTWC Asia powered by AWS, securing an Am Cup victory at Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit alongside Andrew Macpherson.
This success underlines his readiness to step into the Volante Rosso line-up with confidence and momentum.
“I’ve been keeping myself race fit too. I raced in GT World Challenge Asia over the weekend and took a class win on Sunday, so I’m as ready as I’ve ever been to return to Australia and get back into my home GT championship.”
As the LIQUI MOLY GT Festival approaches, attention now turns to Shell V-Power Motorsport Park, where the action will unfold from 8–10 May. Both qualifying sessions and races will air live on FOX SPORTS Australia and Kayo Sports, ensuring fans can follow every moment.
With Porter’s experience and Gardner’s pace, Volante Rosso heads into the weekend with renewed optimism and a clear target: deliver a competitive result at one of the season’s marquee events.
