Envision Racing has strengthened its commitment to climate action by launching a new Corporate Social Responsibility initiative in partnership with EARTHDAY.ORG and Envision Energy India. The programme aims to plant 500,000 mangrove trees in the Sundarbans over the next five years. At the same time, it will improve the lives of thousands of vulnerable families through targeted support in health, education, and sanitation. By combining environmental restoration with fan engagement, the initiative creates a powerful link between global audiences and local impact.
Envision Racing driving climate awareness through motorsport with Envision Energy India and EARTHDAY.ORG partnership
Envision Racing continues to use its platform in the Formula E FIA World Championship to promote meaningful environmental action. The initiative forms part of the team’s Sustainable Chain programme, also known as Race Against Climate Change™. This programme actively encourages fans to reduce their carbon footprint while contributing to global restoration efforts.
Sylvain Filippi, Managing Director and CTO of Envision Racing, highlighted the importance of this collaboration: “We are proud to support Envision Energy India and EARTHDAY.ORG with this incredible initiative. Our goal is to help drive direct action and to stimulate awareness and understanding of the challenges that this vibrant region faces. Through the Formula E platform, we can help bring the Sundarbans stories to a huge global audience.”
Through this approach, the team connects sport, storytelling, and sustainability in a way that resonates far beyond the racetrack.
Restoring the Sundarbans ecosystem
The project focuses on the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world, covering approximately 140,000 hectares. This vast ecosystem lies on the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Meghna rivers along the Bay of Bengal. It also borders India’s Sundarbans World Heritage Site, recognised in 1987 for its ecological significance.
The region features a complex network of tidal waterways, mudflats, and small islands covered with salt-tolerant mangrove forests. These natural formations showcase ongoing ecological processes that sustain both biodiversity and coastal resilience. However, the Sundarbans faces mounting threats from rising sea levels, coastal erosion, and increasingly severe cyclones. Consequently, local communities continue to struggle with reduced access to freshwater, nutrition, sanitation, and education.
In addition to its environmental importance, the Sundarbans supports an extraordinary range of wildlife. The forest is home to around 260 bird species and iconic animals such as the Bengal tiger. It also provides habitat for threatened species, including the estuarine crocodile and the Indian python.
By restoring degraded mangrove areas in West Bengal, the initiative strengthens natural coastal defences while preserving this rich biodiversity. Mangroves can store up to four times more carbon than terrestrial forests, which makes them one of the most effective nature-based climate solutions. In addition, mangrove planting creates economic opportunities, particularly for women and widows facing financial hardship.
Empowering communities through CSR
The initiative goes beyond environmental restoration by directly supporting 18,000 women and 10,000 families. It delivers improvements in health, nutrition, sanitation, and education across a five-year period. As a result, the programme addresses both ecological and social challenges in one integrated effort.
RPV Prasad, CEO of Envision Energy India, emphasised the broader impact: “Mangrove restoration represents the kind of nature-based climate solution that can deliver impact at scale. By combining ecosystem restoration with public engagement through Envision Racing’s Sustainable Chain initiative, we have an opportunity to mobilise people around the world while supporting our local communities most affected by climate change. Partnerships like this demonstrate how technology, business and global audiences can work together to accelerate climate action with purpose.”
This dual focus ensures that environmental progress directly improves quality of life for those on the frontline of climate change. At the same time, it reflects Envision Energy India’s wider commitment to advancing renewable energy and sustainable development. The company continues to develop smart wind turbines, energy storage systems, and green hydrogen technologies to accelerate global energy transformation. It has also invested significantly in manufacturing infrastructure, including facilities in Pune and Tiruchirappalli, which have created thousands of jobs.
Moreover, the company actively strengthens its environmental stewardship through collaborations with organisations such as Earth Day Network. Together, they have planted over 12,700 saplings across India and established a five-acre mini-forest in Tamil Nadu. These efforts not only complement the Sundarbans initiative but also reinforce a long-term vision that integrates clean energy innovation with tangible ecological and community impact.
The power of collective action
The Sustainable Chain programme places individuals at the centre of climate action. Fans pledge to adopt more sustainable habits, such as reducing single-use plastics, choosing greener travel options, and lowering household energy use. In turn, these commitments enable large-scale restoration projects like the Sundarbans initiative.
Participants also receive updates on environmental progress and exclusive content from the racing team. This continuous engagement strengthens awareness and encourages long-term behavioural change.
Ultimately, the initiative reflects a broader mission championed by EARTHDAY.ORG, which mobilises communities worldwide to tackle environmental challenges through collective action, innovation, and civic engagement.
Thus, Envision Racing’s latest CSR initiative demonstrates how sport, technology, and community engagement can converge to address urgent climate challenges. By restoring mangroves in the Sundarbans and supporting vulnerable populations, the programme delivers both environmental and social benefits. As more individuals join the Sustainable Chain, the initiative has the potential to grow into a global movement that drives lasting change.
