Archie Davies enjoyed a sensational introduction to the 2026 GB4 Championship at Silverstone after the Scorpio Motorsport driver combined impressive Qualifying pace with a podium finish during his first single-seater weekend.

The young Brit arrived at the season opener with limited experience and realistic expectations. Across the three official pre-season test days he attended, Davies regularly showed midfield pace but never finished a day higher than 13th overall. Consequently, his primary target heading into the opening round centred on gaining experience, improving consistency and challenging for points finishes.

However, the Silverstone weekend quickly developed into something far more significant. Davies adapted rapidly to the demands of GB4 machinery and immediately established himself as one of the standout rookies in the field. By the end of the weekend, he had not only secured a top-10 Qualifying performance but also celebrated a breakthrough podium result for both himself and Scorpio Motorsport.

Furthermore, the performance underlined the progress the team has made ahead of its first full GB4 campaign after previously appearing in the championship only intermittently alongside other operations.

Qualifying pace marks major step forward for Davies at 2026 GB4 opener in Silverstone

Davies entered the event encouraged by steady progress during testing, although his outright pace had not yet hinted at what was to come. During the two pre-event Silverstone test days, he recorded the 17th and 18th quickest times, respectively. Nevertheless, when Qualifying began, the Brit immediately found another level.

He delivered an excellent performance under pressure to secure eighth place on the grid for race one and 11th for race two. Since the second race grid came from each driver’s second-fastest lap time, Davies also demonstrated consistency throughout the session rather than relying on a single standout lap.

As a result, the rookie placed himself firmly in contention for strong race results across the weekend.

Reflecting on the session with GB4 afterwards, Davies expressed satisfaction with both the balance of the car and his execution when it mattered most.

“I was very happy with the pace and the car in Qualifying, and it tallied up with where we thought I could be if I put all my sectors together at the right moment.”

At the same time, Scorpio Motorsport showed competitive pace throughout the field. Team-mate Romuald Bocquet qualified 12th for race one and 10th for race two, giving the team confidence that it could challenge consistently near the front of the midfield and potentially even higher.

Davies also highlighted the positive impact Bocquet has made since joining the squad. The Frenchman’s single-seater experience has already helped accelerate the team’s development and provided a valuable benchmark for the rookie driver.

“Romuald’s been fantastic to work with, very professional and brings single-seater experience to the table. You could see that in race three where he was pulling away out front after both restarts.”

Silverstone podium exceeds expectations

While Davies entered the weekend hoping to challenge for solid finishes, he never seriously expected to leave Silverstone with silverware. Nevertheless, a dramatic final race transformed an already encouraging debut into a landmark result.

Bocquet initially crossed the line first on the road after a commanding drive in race three. However, officials later handed the Frenchman a time penalty for a jump start. Consequently, the revised classification elevated Davies from fourth position onto the podium, handing him the first GB4 podium finish of his career.

Despite inheriting the position after the chequered flag, the result still reflected the pace, consistency and composure Davies displayed throughout the weekend. Importantly, he stayed in contention across every session and placed himself in the right position to capitalise when opportunities emerged.

Following the race, Davies admitted the podium result came as a genuine surprise.

“I was absolutely blown away to get on the podium in my first single-seater weekend, especially with only three days pre-season testing before round one.”

Moreover, the rookie explained that the strength and experience throughout the GB4 grid had tempered his expectations before the season opener.

“If I’m completely honest, it wasn’t something I was envisioning before the weekend. The grid is super strong this year with a lot of experienced single-seater drivers, and again, with limited time in the car pre-season, a top-10 finish would have been a mega start in my eyes.”

Consequently, ending the weekend with a podium represented a significant confidence boost for both driver and team heading into the remainder of the campaign.

Scorpio Motorsport builds momentum

Davies’ breakthrough result also carried wider significance for Scorpio Motorsport. Although the team has previous experience in single-seater racing, its GB4 appearances before this season had come only on a limited basis and often in partnership with other teams.

Therefore, the Silverstone weekend provided strong evidence that Scorpio possesses the foundations to become a genuine contender as the season develops.

Equally important, Davies praised the atmosphere within the operation and credited the experienced personnel around him for helping him settle quickly into the championship environment.

“Since signing for Scorpio, the vibe in the team has been mega. Working with such an experienced team that has previous success in single-seater categories, you can really feel we’re on the brink of something special. I think Silverstone proved that with the pace and results myself and Romuald achieved.”

Although encouraged by the early success, Davies remains focused on long-term progression rather than immediate expectations. He believes additional mileage and continued hard work will allow both himself and the team to unlock even greater potential later in the season.

“The next goals are obviously podium finishes and to secure a race win for the team. But with patience, more hard work and more time in the car, I do believe by the tail end of the season this can be possible.”

Davies targets more progress at Oulton Park

Attention now turns towards the next GB4 round at Oulton Park on 23-25 May, where Davies hopes to build on the momentum generated at Silverstone.

Fortunately for the young Brit, the Cheshire circuit already holds positive memories from his junior racing career. Having competed there during his first Fiesta Juniors campaign in 2024, Davies arrives with valuable circuit knowledge and plenty of enthusiasm.

“It’s a circuit I visited in my first year of Fiesta Juniors in 2024, and it is genuinely up there as one of my favourites.”

Given the confidence gained from his Silverstone performance, Davies now approaches the next round with higher expectations and clear performance targets.

After proving he can compete inside the top 10 and challenge for podium finishes, the focus now shifts towards maintaining consistency across an entire race weekend and continuing his adaptation to single-seater competition.

“A top-10 qualifying is definitely the target once again, and hopefully we can move forward throughout the weekend.”
