Heading into the race weekend, this is what the standings look like after Round 4 at Long Beach. Alex Palou sits back on top after winning for the third time in five races on Sunday, snatching the points lead from Kyle Kirkwood. Felix Rosenqvist and Scott Dixon both bounced back from slow starts with strong weekends in California.
An early flat tyre disrupted Christian Lundgaard’s race, dropping him from 3rd to 5th as David Malukas and Pato O’Ward jumped ahead. Late issues knocked Marcus Ericsson and Marcus Armstrong out of the top 10.
Practice 1 started cleanly as the drivers used the opening phase to get a feel for the track. With 30 minutes remaining, they began to push, and Marcus Ericsson moved to the top of the timesheets with a 1:10.7580.
Alex Palou had a small moment over the kerbs but kept the car under control. Louis Foster also delivered a strong early showing and sat inside the top three before Palou and Kyle Kirkwood moved into first and second.
Mick Schumacher had a brief scare when he ran off track and headed straight into the pits. However, with 10 minutes left in the first part of Practice 1, the session remained largely clean, with no major incidents.
