The 2026 Wera Tools F4 British Championship, certified by FIA, returned to Brands Hatch with the shorter Indy layout after a year away and delivered one of the most unpredictable weekends of the early season.

A new qualifying format, repeated safety cars, last-minute tyre changes and major championship swings shaped Round 2. Adam Al Azhari started the weekend as the qualifying benchmark with double pole, but Ethan Jeff-Hall, Jarrett Clark and Dries Van Langendonck all claimed victories across a dramatic triple-header.

Van Langendonck entered the weekend as championship leader and left Kent with an even stronger advantage. The Rodin Motorsport driver endured a difficult qualifying result, limited damage across the opening two races, then produced a superb slick-tyre charge in Race 3 to become the first repeat winner of the season.

2026 British F4: Brands Hatch Indy: Qualifying: Al Azhari masters new format

British F4 introduced a new qualifying format for its return to the 1.9-kilometre Brands Hatch Indy circuit. To manage the 30-car field, organisers split the grid into two groups, with each set of drivers receiving a 15-minute session.

The format placed a premium on track position, timing and clean laps around one of the shortest circuits on the calendar. Al Azhari made the most of his opportunity and placed Hitech on double pole, taking both the fastest and second-fastest times.

Ethan Lennon emerged as the quickest driver from the opposite group, while Lewis Wherrell, Ethan Jeff-Hall, Tommy Harfield and Theo Palmer positioned themselves strongly near the front. Van Langendonck, however, lost out after an ill-timed red flag disrupted his qualifying, leaving the championship leader only eighth.

2026 British F4: Brands Hatch Indy: Race 1: Jeff-Hall wins frenetic opener

Jeff-Hall delivered a composed Race 1 victory after an aggressive move on Al Azhari gave him control of the Brands Hatch opener.

Harfield launched well from row three and snatched third as the field charged into Paddock Hill Bend. At the front, Jeff-Hall immediately challenged Al Azhari for the lead, but he could not complete the move around the outside on the opening lap.

A red flag then halted the race on lap three after two separate opening-lap incidents. At the restart, Harfield again launched strongly and moved onto Al Azhari’s gearbox, but Jeff-Hall completed the move he had attempted earlier. The Argenti Motorsport driver swept around the outside at Paddock Hill Bend, sealed the pass before Druids and took the lead.

From there, Jeff-Hall controlled the race. Al Azhari stayed within eight tenths and kept pressure on the leader, but he never found a clear chance to attack. Harfield held third for his first podium of the season, while Palmer charged to fourth after a late move on Wherrell.

Van Langendonck limited the damage after his qualifying setback. He gained one place from his starting position and finished seventh, keeping himself firmly in the title picture despite a difficult Saturday.

2026 British F4: Brands Hatch Indy: Race 2: Clark controls greasy Sunday sprint

Race 2 gave Jarrett Clark the chance to shine, and the Virtuosi Racing driver took full advantage from pole.

Clark launched cleanly and quickly built a gap over Cash Felber and Jaber Alsabah as the field struggled for grip on a greasy Sunday surface. Al Azhari ran wide at the final corner on the opening lap and dropped down the order, while further incidents brought out the safety car early.

When racing resumed, Clark immediately stretched his advantage. Felber kept him honest, but Clark managed the gap and crossed the line 2.431 seconds clear to become the fifth different winner in five races at the start of the season.

Felber secured second, while Alsabah claimed both his first Rookie Cup win and his first overall British F4 podium in third. Harfield continued his strong weekend with fourth after Joseph Smith received a penalty for forcing Van Langendonck off track on lap one.

Van Langendonck finished seventh again after a race filled with wheel-to-wheel battles against his title rivals, while Jeff-Hall came home tenth and lost ground in the championship fight.

2026 British F4: Brands Hatch Indy: Race 3: Van Langendonck wins split-strategy thriller

Race 3 produced the defining drama of the weekend before the lights even went out. Persistent rain had left the grid on wet tyres, but a drying track tempted 12 drivers into the pit lane at the end of the formation lap. Van Langendonck and Harfield both joined that group and switched to slicks.

Al Azhari led the wet-tyre runners away, with Lennon and Jeff-Hall close behind. Lennon attacked through Paddock Hill Bend and again at Druids on lap two, but the damp surface caught him out and sent him across the grass.

The safety car returned by lap four and handed the slick runners a chance to close the gap. Confusion then added more drama when the safety car picked up the group led by Bättig rather than the race leader, Al Azhari. That delayed the slick-tyre runners, who needed clear laps to exploit their tyre advantage.

Once the race resumed, the slick runners transformed the contest. Harfield attempted to pass Cameron Nelson but clipped his front wing on the JHR driver’s gearbox and pitted for a new nose cone. Another safety car arrived before he reached the pit lane, allowing him to stay on the lead lap.

Van Langendonck then launched his charge. The Belgian moved from tenth to third in three racing laps after the second safety car. He attacked Jeff-Hall at Graham Hill Bend, clipped the Argenti driver’s front tyre while wrestling the car, and still moved into second. Moments later, he used superior traction out of the final corner to pass Al Azhari for the lead.

Behind him, Kit Belofsky produced one of the drives of the weekend. He climbed from 19th at pit exit to second, scoring both his first British F4 podium and his first top-10 finish in the championship. Cole Hewetson completed the podium, while Ethan Carney finished fourth and Harfield recovered to fifth.

Van Langendonck’s victory made him the first repeat winner of the season and gave him control of the championship leaving Brands Hatch.
