After a lively 2026 season-opener at the Algarve, Euroformula Open now turns its attention to one of the most respected venues in world motorsport: Spa-Francorchamps. The 7.004-km circuit in the Ardennes gives young drivers a complete examination. Its fast corners, steep elevation changes and unpredictable weather demand courage, precision and maturity. Therefore, this weekend offers the 2026 field a major chance to prove its quality on a stage every aspiring professional wants to master.
Euroformula Open arrives in Belgium with momentum after three close races in Portugal. Rui-Heng Enzo Yeh left Portimão as the early championship leader on 62 points, 11 clear of Diego de la Torre and 12 ahead of Alessandro Famularo.
Algarve underlines the series’ strength
The opening round showed how tight the 2026 championship could become. Yeh claimed two victories for Motopark, while Famularo delivered an emotional win for BVM Racing in Race 2. De la Torre also showed impressive consistency, finishing on the podium in all three Algarve races.
In addition, the championship received another timely reminder of its value when 2025 Euroformula Open champion Tymek Kucharczyk took his maiden Indy NXT victory at Indianapolis. His progress gives the series another strong example of how its technical package can prepare drivers for the next steps in international single-seater racing.
With the Dallara 324 chassis, Tom’s engine and Pirelli tyres, Euroformula Open continues to offer a demanding platform. As a result, Spa should reveal even more about the drivers who can combine raw speed with racecraft.
Drivex returns with South American talent
The Belgian round also brings a notable expansion of the grid. Fourteen cars will contest the event, helped by the return of Drivex.
Although the Spanish team enters as a new name on this year’s grid, it knows the championship well. Miguel Ángel de Castro’s squad built a long association with the series during the European F3 Open era and later earned three junior-class titles in Euroformula Open.
Drivex will run two cars at Spa as part of selected outings planned for the season. Brazil’s Filippo Fiorentino and Argentina’s Genaro Trappa will lead the team’s return, with Trappa already familiar with the championship after an appearance last year. Feeder Series also listed Fiorentino and Trappa among the new entries for Spa.
BVM strengthens its challenge
BVM Racing will also increase its presence by adding a fourth car for Brazil’s Alceu Feldmann. His arrival takes the South American representation on the grid to four drivers and gives BVM another route into the points fight.
The Italian outfit already has strong momentum through Famularo, who revived his campaign and his confidence with victory in Portugal. Alongside him, Javier Herrera brings youth and ambition, while India’s Divy Nandan arrives with plenty of attention after narrowly missing a race win at Portimão.
Consequently, BVM should play a central role at Spa, especially if its drivers build on the pace they showed during the opening weekend.
Yeh leads Motopark’s title push
Motopark enters the second round with the championship lead and clear strength in depth. Yeh has already set the standard with two wins, but De la Torre sits close enough to apply immediate pressure.
The Mexican driver has started the season with consistency and now chases his first Euroformula Open win. Meanwhile, Everett Stack will look for a cleaner weekend after a mixed Algarve round that showed pace but also frustration.
Motopark also fields Lorenzo Castillo, Jesse Carrasquedo, Jan Koller and Wiktor Dobrzański. Dobrzański currently leads the Rookies’ Trophy standings, which gives the German squad another target as the championship reaches Spa.
Neri Autosport targets a home-race breakthrough
Neri Autosport also deserves attention after an encouraging debut in Portugal. The French team arrived with little preparation time and a car that had only recently joined its operation, yet it finished all three races inside the top ten and took fifth in Race 3.
Now, Aaron Ferrazzano heads to his home round in Belgium with a stronger foundation. He knows Spa well, and that local experience could help him trouble more established teams. Moreover, confidence from Portimão should give Neri Autosport belief that it can keep climbing.
Ardennes test could reshape the early fight
The season remains young, but Spa often accelerates a championship story. The circuit punishes hesitation, rewards commitment and exposes weaknesses quickly.
Yeh holds the early advantage, yet De la Torre, Famularo, Stack and several others have already shown enough pace to threaten him. At the same time, Drivex’s return and BVM’s expansion add fresh intrigue to a grid that continues to grow in both size and quality.
Therefore, Euroformula Open arrives at Spa with all the ingredients for another compelling weekend: a famous circuit, a tight points battle, new entries and a field full of drivers eager to graduate from one of motorsport’s toughest universities.
