The Poleman is back after Broc Feeney claimed another pole position of his 2026 Supercars Championship at the Tasmania Super 440. The Triple Eight driver converted consistent pace across qualifying and the Shootout into pole for Race 16 at Symmons Plains. Behind him, Matt Payne and Jayden Ojeda emerged as the leading challengers set to start Sunday’s finale from the front rows.
So far this weekend
Toyota has stolen the spotlight at Symmons Plains across the opening two races of the Tasmania Super 440, with Chaz Mostert and Andre Heimgartner delivering a breakthrough Saturday for the manufacturer in the 2026 Supercars season.
Saturday’s opening qualifying sessions were run in difficult, greasy conditions that caught several drivers out and created mixed-up grids across both sprint races. Chaz Mostert emerged as the standout performer early, securing his first pole position of the season for Race 14 ahead of Anton De Pasquale and Brodie Kostecki. Championship contenders Matt Payne, Kai Allen and Will Brown all struggled to hook together clean laps in the changing conditions and were left fighting from outside the top 10.
Mostert converted pole into victory in Race 14 with a composed drive for Walkinshaw Andretti United. The Ford driver controlled proceedings from the front and managed the tyre degradation well across the 50-lap contest to claim his first win of the season and hand Toyota another major result in its debut campaign. David Reynolds produced one of his strongest drives of the year to finish second, while Brodie Kostecki completed the podium after a consistent afternoon.
Race 15 later in the day delivered even more drama and another milestone result for Toyota. Andre Heimgartner secured Brad Jones Racing’s first win with the manufacturer after surviving a tense late-race battle with Broc Feeney and Matt Payne. The Kiwi driver had shown strong pace throughout the day and capitalised on strategy and track position to break through for his first victory since 2024.

Qualifying
Sunday morning’s qualifying session for Race 16 again produced unpredictable conditions and several major moments as drivers battled for a place in the Top Ten Shootout.
Brodie Kostecki emerged as one of the fastest drivers throughout the session, putting DJR firmly back into contention after a mixed Saturday. The 2023 champion delivered a series of strong laps to secure provisional pole.
However, the session was not without controversy. A clash between Aaron Cameron and Anton De Pasquale brought further drama to an already hectic qualifying hour. Both drivers caught up in contact while fighting for position on track. The incident added to the growing tension across pit lane as teams pushed aggressively to secure track position during the short session format.
Broc Feeney again demonstrated the pace of Triple Eight, comfortably progressing into the Shootout alongside Matt Payne, Jayden Ojeda and De Pasquale. Payne continued to show strong consistency for Grove Racing after his podium finish in Race 15, while Ojeda impressed with one of the strongest qualifying performances of his Supercars career.
Toyota’s outright pace appeared to dip slightly compared to Saturday’s sessions, although several of its entries still remained competitive enough to challenge near the front half of the Shootout order.
Top Ten Shootout
The Top Ten Shootout delivered another close battle at the front. However, Broc Feeney ultimately securing pole position for Race 16 after a clinical lap under pressure.
Feeney produced a clean and composed run around Symmons Plains to edge Matt Payne by just 0.067 seconds. Feeney gave Triple Eight an important boost heading into the weekend’s final race. After narrowly missing victory in Race 15, the championship leader responded strongly when it mattered most.
Payne continued Penrite Racing’s impressive form by taking second, further underlining the team’s strong tyre life and consistency across the Tasmania round. Jayden Ojeda was one of the stars of the Shootout. The rookie secured third place with a standout lap that marked one of the best qualifying performances of his career.
Anton De Pasquale and Brodie Kostecki rounded out the top five after both showing strong pace throughout qualifying. While several drivers struggled to maximise grip in the cool and windy conditions during their single-lap runs.
With Toyota already claiming both Saturday races and Feeney now on pole for Sunday’s finale, the stage has been set for a highly competitive final showdown at Symmons Plains as the championship battle continues to intensify.
