Few names carry greater weight at the 24 Hours of Le Mans than Jacky Ickx. The Belgian racing icon claimed six victories at the legendary endurance event and shaped some of the race’s most memorable moments. Yet, instead of looking back, Ickx recently focused firmly on the future as he climbed into the Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar at Circuit Paul Ricard, just weeks ahead of the 2026 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Genesis Magma Racing created a moment that blended heritage with ambition. The team unveiled a special version of the GMR-001 Hypercar finished in dark blue with a white stripe, mirroring the colours of Ickx’s famous helmet design. As a result, the car immediately symbolised a connection between generations of endurance racing.
Inside the garage, the atmosphere reflected the significance of the occasion. The modern Hypercar represented advanced engineering and relentless performance. At the same time, the presence of Ickx added history, emotion and authenticity to the experience.
An emotional tribute at Paul Ricard
The event reached another level when Jacky Ickx settled into the cockpit and completed several laps around Circuit Paul Ricard. The sight of a Le Mans legend driving a cutting-edge Hypercar captured the spirit of endurance racing perfectly.
Moreover, the moment highlighted the constant evolution of Le Mans. The race never stands still. Instead, it continuously links the achievements of the past with the ambitions of the future.
Ickx himself felt the emotional impact immediately. “It’s indescribable. When the door opened I wasn’t expecting anything of the sort,” said the Belgian. “I was extremely touched to see the Genesis Magma Racing Hypercar in dark blue with a white stripe. But the most important thing is to live in the present. To share the passion for motor racing with others, to share the human aspect – it was one of the most important moments I’ve ever known. This team gave me something unique. You dream… and sometimes dreams come true. But I can tell you now, I won’t be taking part in the race next year!”
His words reinforced the emotional depth behind the tribute. Rather than simply celebrating past achievements, Genesis Magma Racing created an experience that acknowledged how motorsport continues to inspire across generations.
The spirit of Le Mans lives on
The timing of the occasion added even more significance. With only two weeks remaining before the 94th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 10–14 June 2026, the appearance of Jacky Ickx in the Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar served as a reminder of what makes the race unique.
Le Mans thrives because it blends memory with innovation. Every year introduces new technology, fresh drivers and evolving competition. Nevertheless, the race never loses its emotional core.
Consequently, the meeting between Ickx and the Genesis Hypercar represented more than a ceremonial drive. It became a symbolic passing of the torch between eras of endurance racing.
Genesis Magma Racing signals its ambition for Le Mans and beyond with the GMR-001
Genesis Magma Racing also used the occasion to underline its growing ambitions in endurance motorsport. By honouring one of Le Mans’ greatest figures while showcasing the GMR-001 Hypercar, the manufacturer demonstrated its respect for racing history and its commitment to shaping the future.
The special livery, the emotional presentation and the laps at Paul Ricard all contributed to a powerful statement ahead of the 2026 race. Genesis did not simply present a new car. Instead, the brand positioned itself within the wider story of Le Mans.
As anticipation builds for this year’s event, the image of Jacky Ickx behind the wheel of the Genesis GMR-001 Hypercar will remain one of the defining moments of the pre-race build-up.
